Thanks Janice,

I also enjoy grain cereal with Vanilla soy (Vanilla is the best)..lol. Not

eatting meat at first was very hard since it seemed like everywhere I turned

there it was. My problem was saying no! Now that I've sort of developed a

routine (besides staying in the house and hiding from the meat eatters lol. The

transition is going much better. Thanks for looking out. Hey try apples

strawberries and a few bananas with some ice. makes a good smoothie....

Keep in touch, I could use the friend.....

I was a burger ans hot dog man (yes I know what they put in those

things)...lol....

I was a person who spent most of the time on the road. Fast food was my best

friend. I have retired since and now have time to pick and choose a little

better. I think that now I have a better handle on things. Thank you. A list of

the substitutes would be appreciated though.

her her bones wouldn't grow if she didn't eat meat.

I am continually amazed at the misinformation out there, and appalled that

if often comes from those in the medical profession! I would try and get a

hold of nutritional information from a VEGAN standpoint, to put your fears to

rest (and maybe educate a few who need it desperately!).

I buy the vegaterian sausages, burger patties, roasts. I make a lot of

things with tofu, chickpeas, lentils.

Actually, although those are mostly healthy foods, too MUCH protein is often

much more of a problem than not enough.

Is she gitting all the nutrients she needs to grow. She love exercise

and is extreamly fit.

Then I wouldn't worry one little bit! :) Even without all the meat analogs,

she'd be absolutely fine!

The only reason the rest of my family doesn't eat as much vegetarian as

her is my youngest and myself have coeliacs so that rules out a lot of

the vegetarian stuff as it is made with mostly gluten protien.

Meat analogs are totally unnecessary. I am transitioning to vegan, and also

gluten intolerant (Celiac biopsy was negative, but I am not convinced I don't

have it). I belong to a called that might

just be helpful for you as well. You can eat a balanced, healthful vegetarian

diet without gluten.

You're an awesome mom for supporting your daughter's decision! Welcome!

Can you switch doctors to find someone who knows more about nutrition? I would

make sure that she is getting enough food from the other 3 food groups. It

sounds like you've got legumes covered with all the soy foods, chickpeas and

lentils. She needs 3-4 servings of fruits, 3-4 servings of vegetables (a good

variety of colors remember grains - eg corn do not count as vegetables), 5-6

servings of grains a day for proper nutrition. My daughter's pediatrician likes

for her to get 3-4 servings of milk alternatives per day. She drinks two 8 oz

servings of chocolate and/or plain of soy milk and a soy yoghurt per day.

Hi Irene,

Hadn't even thought about my email till you said that. lol

It's a wonder they let me in the group! <smile>

My mother had been in a school in New York, she told me all they did was cook

mutton.

She hated it and the smell of it so she never cooked lamb.

My whole email address and password are spoofs off my mother.

Thanks for the welcome Jo.

I've been reading some of the recent past posts, and noticed the

thread of PETA. I support IFAW, and sometimes VIVA, which I think do

good work. I'm wondering what animal rights charities others on here

think are good.

I support Dr Hadwen, which funds some non-animal research. I usually

donate to other animal charities when I go to The Vegan Fair, or on

street stalls.

Hi Vicky

My personal favourite is the Campaign for Safer Medicines, who are very

active in both non-animal medical testing, and in getting information out

about why animal testing is a bad thing...

VIVA and IFAW certainly have their place, and do a good job, as well as IVU.

However, the one thing we seem to be missing in the animal rights world is a

more gentle approach - all the organisations tend to go for the " lets shock

people with horrific pictures " approach, which works very well for a lot of

people, and is a great way of doing it... but there are also a sector of

society who just want information without being bombarded with that sort of

imagery. I'd like to see a group to complement these more " aggressive " ones,

which encourages people with statistical information and, far more

importantly, information about *how* they can go vegan and enjoy good food,

rather than just telling meat-eaters that they're evil and need to change.

I'm on the activist team of Farm Sanctuary (Farmsanctuary.org). They do great work raising issues about factory farming and operate farm animal sanctuaries in New York and California. The Founder Gene Bauer has a great, more gentle approach. He basically preaches love the sinner, hate the sin & leading by example and through education instead of screaming at people and telling them they are horrible human beings. He has written a great book called "Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food." Fwd: To Help AnimalsAll in a good cause........

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple... Please tell ten friends to each tell a further ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily so they can meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes about 15 seconds to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals for free'. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site! Please pass it along to people you know. http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/

Kale wraps are a great idea. How lovely that your kids like them, too. My

mother would never ever EVER have dreamed of doing something like that -- hence

my struggle to like vegetables today.

Thanks for sharing, Angela.

I love leafy green wraps. Mainly I use Romaine right now since it is the

cheapest for organic. Good thing the growing season is coming up.

This is a great way to eliminate some of those refined flours and sugars.

Hello and Welcome Amy.

I would imagine eating out is the number 1 complaint for vegans, both old and new.

I would say, just take your time. learn what is vegan and what is not. Educate yourself, educate others. read. ask questions. teach. explore.

Hello to everyone. I am a new member and want to thank you for letting me part of your group. My husband and I have recently made the decission to go to a vegan diet. We have been doing some meals vegan for several weeks while we eat up some not vegan items we had in our home. For the past week we have been on a total vegan diet. It just makes me feel better, I feel less tired and more focused and more able to handle the pressures of my job and just life in general. Have others felt these changes? What other types of changes have others experienced. I have even lost a couple of pounds even though that was not my intention. I have found that the most difficult part is eating out. We don't live in a huge city so there are not many vegan resturants. I did find a website that lists some common eating places and what is vegan so that helps. I am learning to ask questions of the wait staff on what things are cooked in. I was just wondering if others have found eating out a challenge or maybe some tips.Thank you again for letting me into your group. I look forward to getting to know everyone and share anything I learn.Amy

Hi AmyWelcome to the group and congratulations to both you and your husband on going vegan. So far as eating out goes - I think you just always have to ask questions and the more places you ask what they offer and what is in food, the more people will realise there is a demand for vegan food :) which can only be a good thing. Hope you find lots of fun places to eat near where you live.best wishesElizabeth--- On Wed, 25/11/09, amykensington6 <amykensington6 wrote:amykensington6 <amykensington6 New Date: Wednesday, 25 November, 2009, 13:52
