PeterTo: ar-news (AT) googl (DOT) comCC: [AR-News] We Need Your Letter of Opposition to Crossbow hunting in NYMon, 29 Mar 2010 20:14:33 -0400 LOHV Dear AR Activist, We urgently need your letters opposing the passage of legislation proposed in Bills A924/S6793, sponsored by Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte and Senator David Valesky, which are currently before the Environmental Conservation Committees in both the Assembly and the Senate. This legislation would allow the use of crossbows for hunting in NY. Points to make: Crossbows require less skill, strength and stamina than longbows It attracts mostly the very young, the unskilled, the old, the infirm and the disabled. Many of these hunters are not able to track wounded animals at great distances. The crippling rate (animals hit but not recovered) for longbow hunting is 50%; permitting crossbows to be used would greatly increase the crippling rate.
