STOP GREYHOUND RACING IN SOUTH

AFRICA

LATEST UPDATE- PLEASE EVERYONE

ALL OVER THE WORLD TAKE ACTION ON THIS SPECIAL

APPEAL TO STOP CRUELTY BEFORE

IT STARTS!

SUBMISSIONS MUST BE IN PLEASE BY 5TH APRIL 2010

Greyhound Crusaders/SWAP team UK have been in regular contact

over the last few months with Mpho Mosing from the Dept of Trade and Industry

in South Africa sharing information on what is happening here in the UK and

Ireland concerning the plight of racing greyhounds. It is important

that we educate the South Africans about the heinous cruelty involved

in this so called sport and tell them that greyhound tracks

are closing here in the UK as well as the USA with greyhound racing

in massive decline. We cannot tell you how very concerned we are about the

possible introduction of greyhound racing in South Africa as we know the

greyhounds will suffer massively. We need

your help now!!!!

Firstly please see the attached document relating to all

the details for the Gambling Commission public hearings in South Africa of

which greyhound racing will be one of the items on the agenda. Greyhound

racing is illegal in SA at the moment but it could be legalised. Those of

you living out there in SA please share this info with all your contacts

and try to attend the meetings to be a voice for the greyhounds. We cannot

emphasize the importance of helping us with this important appeal as

the fate of many thousands of greyhounds are at stake.

Please

contact 'Lejane' who is Chairperson at 'Capetonians Against Animal

Abuse' in South Africa who are trying to stop the legalisation of greyhound

racing in SA lejane

See their website

here-http://www.caaa.co.za/ Those of you living in SA please

support them in their campaign.

Secondly we are asking all our national and international

supporters to please email or fax Ms Pinky Mothabi at the DTI PMothabi to

protest about the possible introduction of greyhound racing in South Africa.

Please remember to keep all correspondence polite, this is essential. Please

urge her to listen to your plea to stop any introduction of this sport as many

thousands of greyhounds will suffer and die as they do in our country, Ireland

and other places around the world. THIS

PLEASE MUST BE DONE BY THE 5TH APRIL

Taken

from DTI info- The public can also forward

their written submissions by 5 April 2010, to Ms. Pinky Mothabi on email: PMothabi or via fax:

(012) 394 2477.

Greyhound

Crusaders/SWAP team UK are asking you to now please visit the Greyhound

Action website here in the UK for more info on the plight of the racing

greyhound www.greyhoundaction.org.uk

Let

us not forget that the real winners here are only the money makers ie the

bookies and we feel poorer communities in South Africa will surely be

seduced into betting on the dogs while fat cats enjoy the profits. South Africa

already have an overwhelming problem of thousands of unwanted dogs that

are killed every year and to add to the thousands of

unwanted greyhounds after their racing days are over would be an

international crime. Also many racing greyhounds are

normally kennelled for most of the day. In a country that is close to the

equator what extreme temperatures will these dogs have to endure? We think that

the horrors of greyhound racing in this country and Ireland will no doubt

be duplicated in South Africa with dogs being dumped on the

streets, shot, drugged, ears hacked off to remove identifying tattoo

numbers that can trace the previous owner, fatal injuries on tracks, the

list is endless.

TIME TO ACT AND TRY TO STOP THIS BEFORE IT STARTS!!!

Every

email counts, every voice can and should be heard and it is up to all

of us to take action together and be a united voice for the voiceless.

Greyhounds are the most delightful dogs, their passive, sweet,

gentle nature is what makes them a target for animal abusers. Please

protect them. We know you will do your best you always do and we are very grateful

to all our supporters globally for making a difference so thank you from the

bottom of our hearts.

Please see the info we have received from the DTI below.

Many

thanks
