A 10-year, US$4 billion construction project, which already has approval from the Chinese authorities, will transform farmland and space currently used for small-scale equestrian activity in Tianjin municipality’s Ninghe County into one of the most spectacular horse-racing venues in the world. The development will include facilities to train 8,000 riders, breed 1,000 top-class studs, produce high-quality horse feed, hold auctions, and host international and domestic professional races. It will be the home of education programmes where the public can learn about the animals and the sport. International Equine Group are the investment arm of Meydan Group and TAK Design Consultants, the companies behind the construction of the Meydan Racecourse, which had its grand opening last weekend in Dubai. The new project provides the opportunity for the group to develop its international presence in horse racing, and to consolidate the industry in China. Teo Ah Khing, the managing director of TAK Design Consultants, said: " Horse racing is a brand-new industry in China. They have little dots all over the country of horse racing and breeding but no structure. " The first phase of development - between 2011 and 2015 - will consist of the construction of an international equestrian college, horse-breeding base, feed plant and residential and commercial developments. The second phase will run from 2016 to 2020, with the emphasis shifting on to merging the track into the international horse racing circuit. http://www.sportspromedia.com/deals/_a/meydan_phoenix_city_to_revolutionise_chinese_horse_racing/
