" Peace Advocacy Network Joins the Philadelphia Non-Profit Scene to

Promote Veganism, Social Justice, and Respect for the Earth’s

Inhabitants and Resources "

Philadelphia, PA—With a focus on activism, Peace Advocacy Network

(PAN) seeks to promote nonviolence in the Philadelphia community and

beyond. While their mission is to promote veganism, which is the way

of life that condemns exploitation and abuse of animals and avoids

consumption of animal-derived products, they also seek to tackle

issues of social injustice as well as environmental destruction.

As President Leila Fusfeld explains, " PAN is bringing together a lot

of really creative ideas of activists in the Philadelphia area, geared

toward a movement of communities embracing nonviolence. Veganism and

respect are central to our mission and activities. "

The board members and leaders of PAN are no strangers to activism in

Philadelphia. They have led prominent campaigns to ban horse-drawn

carriages in Philadelphia and to discourage individuals from attending

the zoo and circuses that exploit and abuse animals. They also ran

Philadelphia’s first-ever Vegan Pledge—a program that supports

individuals who choose to go vegan for (at least) 30 days by offering

weekly classes, cooking lessons, social events, and plenty of free

vegan food. PAN plans to continue these outreach efforts, as well as

host vegan block parties which will feature education, entertainment,

and vegan food. PAN will also conduct a restaurant outreach program

which will assist local vegans in determining which restaurants will

provide complete vegan meals. Additionally, PAN will undertake efforts

to make healthful plant-based foods available to low income families

and individuals, and will collaborate with other community groups to

work on other social justice issues, such as feminism, racism, and

LGBT rights. Although veganism is the most important environmental

protection approach that PAN will promote, they will also focus on

other preventative measures to reduce our carbon footprint. For more

information on upcoming events and how you can become involved with

PAN, please visit the website www.peaceadvocacynetwork.org.

PAN is pleased to invite the public to join them and their members as

they toast to their formation at a champagne vegan dinner at MiLah

Vegetarian Restaurant (218 South 16th Street, Philadelphia) on

Thursday, April 15, 2010, from 6 to 9pm. The price is $25 in advance

or $35 at the door and includes a champagne toast and delicious vegan

dinner, including Vegetable-Filled Phyllo Purse, Tofu A La Parrilla

Estilo Mexicano, Red Polenta Curry Cake, and Grilled Marinated Seitan.
