Japan today obtained an arrest warrant for the leader of the marineconservation group Sea Shepherd, as it stepped up its aggressivepursuit of anti-whaling activists. It accused Paul Watson of endangering the lives of whaling crews inclashes in the Antarctic this winter during Japan's annual cull ofhundreds of whales in the name of "research". The Japan coastguard will seek Watson's arrest through Interpol onsuspicion of assault and obstruction of business, reports said. The Canadian, who founded Sea Shepherd in 1977, has proved aformidable nemesis for Japan's whalers in recent years.
