Guest guest Posted January 15, 2006 Report Share Posted January 15, 2006 The Philippine Inquirer, Makati City January 14, 2006 Seventy dogs saved from slaughter by Marlon Ramos, The Inquirer CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna -- Members of the Task Force Meteor of the Calabarzon police intercepted at a checkpoint in Batangas two passenger jeepneys carrying more than 70 dogs that were going to be sold in Baguio City and the Ilocos region. Chief Superintendent Jesus Verzosa, police director of Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon region), said the two vehicles were seized at a police checkpoint in the village of Antipolo, Lipa City around 10 p.m. on Friday. He said police arrested drivers Nilo de Lloro and Pastor Escanos, and helpers Danilo Quiray and Ernesto Villamil. All were residents of Quiloquilo village, Padre Garcia, Batangas. Verzosa said members of the task force were conducting a routine inspection of vehicles in the area when they chanced upon a jeep loaded with dogs kept in small cages. He said De Lloro told the police that they were about to deliver the dogs to a slaughterhouse in Baguio City.
