In December, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal approved the importation of the elephants from Thailand on the condition the zoos satisfy questions raised about the conditions the elephants will be kept in. Animal welfare groups unsuccessfully opposed the importation of the animals for the zoos' conservation program. A spokeswoman for Sydney's Taronga Zoo says both zoos will provide information to the tribunal today on how the animals will be looked after. She says she is hopeful permission will be granted to import the elephants that are currently being kept in quarantine centre in Thailand.
