2. PAWS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS:

PAWS’s volunteers Sonali Bagde & Pallavi Pasarkar did an excellent job by

organizing school awareness programs at Balvikas Mandir in central suburbs of

Ambernath and Badlapur on 9th & 10th January and again on30 & 31st January They

showd PETA’s ‘Compassionate Citizen’ CD to the students of junior classes &

‘Beauty Without Cruelty’ CD to Senior Class students. Both programs were very

successful.

3. VACCINATION CAMP FOR PONIES:

PAWS’s Annual Horse and Pony Vaccination program took place on 14th January 2006

where all the Tonga owners came with their ponies & horses. PAWS Volunteers

Sonali, Kishore, Anuradha, Shiv-Prasad, Lekha, Kunal, Nilesh, Monali, Pallavi,

Anahita & Raj worked hard with Dr. Datta to help as many animals. PAWS

volunteers distributed work among themselves Some looked after giving treats to

ponies of Chana & Jaggary while some were helping vets with vaccination of

animals against Sirra & Tetanus. Some were busy gathering information on age,

purchase details & paperwork while others gave bath to horses. PAWS distributed

free Shampoo sachets to the Tonga Owners. Thereafter ,a competition took place

for best pony in which a white Pony named Champa won the Medal for THE BEST

GROOMED PONY. All animals were given water mixed with Glucose D.

THANE SPCA sponsored the Vaccines & PAWS trustee Ms. Brinda Upadhyaya sponsored

food for the camp. We thank them on behalf of the animals that received relief

5. TRAINING ON REPTILE IDENTIFICATION & REHABILITATION.

PAWS feels that a successful NGO can function only through active volunteers who

must be trained in animal rights, welfare issues and correct handling and caring

for animals. Trained volunteers spread right knowledge to the common world. PAWS

organizes regular training sessions for its volunteers on different issues like

treatments, rescues of stray animals, wildlife rehabilitation and environmental

issues etc.

On 22nd January Paws invited Dr. Gowri Mallapur to train 17 volunteers including

Vets, Thane SPCA Staff, PAWS Staff & Dahanu’s wildlife rescue group. She

enlightened the volunteers on topics like ‘Snake Identification’ and ‘Simple

Rescue Techniques & first aid to people on snake bites’ for an hour.

PAWS is grateful to Mr. Poonam Singhvi for providing 'Hariyali’ Office as the

venue for this event.

6. PRESS CONFERENCE ON BULLOCK CART RACES:

A joint Press conference was organized at Poona by Ahmadnagar SPCA, BWC, PAWS &

many NGO’s to highlight the cruelty to animals in sports. Dr.Ranjeet Konkar of

BWC showed exclusive videos shots during such races.

We thank Mr. Manoj Oswal for representing PAWS in this conferance.

7. MONKEY MANIA:

Thane SPCA animal hospital received a pair of monkeys for treatment which were

rescued by Dahanu’s wildlife rescue group.

The rumor that we released the monkeys at Borivli National Park at night

illegally is totally false as our ambulance helped in translocating them to Mr.

Nilimkumar Khaire’s rescue center in Poona. Thane SPCA took all legal

permissions & transit permits to transport the animals to Poona.

PAWS made its Ambulance available to translocate these monkeys from Thane to

Poona.PAWS team comprising Nilesh, Anuradha, Lekha, Monali, Prasad & Kishore

accompanied the ambulance.

We not only received all legal permissions but got acknowledgment from the

center for acceptance of monkeys.

This is a brickbat on those who actually do not do any work but talk about

others.

Our charities will continue rescue & treat more monkeys in best possible ways.

presentation about its activities & achievements. We thank Mr. Percy Ghaswala of

Ghaswala Vision Foundation who took lots of efforts in scanning the photos,

materils, news clippings, creating tables, making notes, flow charts to make a

professional presentation.

9. DONATION IN KIND:

rescue work. This camera is useful for us in capturing the status of captive

elephants in India.

Thanks Nicole & god bless you!

10. SOME NOTABLE FIELD CALLS:

##Bullock rescued- PAWS rescued a bullock hit by a vehicle and fallen in a

gutter with the help of their ambulance along with help from the fire brigade,

police and local residents. PAWS admitted the bullock to Bombay SPCA animal

hospital but later it died due to multiple fractures.

##PAWS swung into action to save a beautiful Flamingo which had a damaged wing.

This huge bird of four and a half feet long had a long red beak but it died

despite our attempts tosave it in the ambulance. As neither the fire brigade

nor Kalyan Range Forest Officer were able to take charge of the dead bird, PAWS

spent Rs.800/- worth diesel to take the bird for cremation as non of the forest

dept were taking charge of the bird. PAWS gave the bird to Bombay SPCA for

cremation. Atleast it was not unattended after its death!

Now we wish we could have our own shelter!

11. APPEAL FOR FUNDS:

HELP US HELP THE NEEDY!

We at PAWS are committed to help our four legged , furred, feathered and scaled

friends but for this we are totally dependent on financial help from donors and

generous well wishers. Helping distressed people is indeed a service to Humanity

but serving dumb and helpless creatures is service to GOD. While there are

several others who destroy them , we at PAWS conserve , rehabilitate and serve

animals as best as funds permit . We need money to run our ambulance, pay

salaries and buy food and medicine. We therefore appeal to you to kindly help us

help the needy.

You small contribution would make us difference!
