An adult Barn owl(Golden Owl) with some injuries and starvation was rescued by Dr.Rajinder Kaur ,Civil surgeon,Ludhiana.She noticed that it has got entangled in a kite string on a tree at her residence.It has an injured wing with bleeding.She contacted People ForAnimals and provided water etc. to almost shocked animal . PFA unsuccessfully tried to inform the Forest Department & A PFA staffer was sent to fetch the injured Bird at Jeev Kalyan Kendra & Bhagwan Mahavir Abhayshala at Khwajke(Rahon Road),Ludhiana , keeiping in view of no arrangements /squads to tackle these type of cases in odd hours or holidays by Punjab Forest Department. It is about 10-11 inches golden and white bird with ghostly Mask , having long heart sized face with small black eyes. Its upperparts are golden brown with black and white speckles.it has white underwings and chest. The legs are coated with feathers.It hisses or snores with wild shrieks.it nests on old buildings, treeholes. It is nocturnal and eats mainly rodents, but can eat small vertebrates, insects or sometimes grains. PFA will keep it at Jeev Kalyan Kendra & Bhagwan Mahavir Abhayshala (PFA’s Animals’ & Birds’ Hospital and Shelter) and release it when it will become fit to fly.Dr.Bhupinder Singh,PFA, vet. has informed that bird has injured with String of Kite & he has separated entangled string from the feathers of Owl. for People For Animals Ludhiana.
