Dear Sirs,

I am an animal lover from Greece and as a member of many

animal-friends' mailing lists I can be informed of what is going on

around the world concerning relevant matters. With grear sorrow we hear

here in Greece that horrific things are taking place in Kandy as our

adorable four-legged friends suffer endless pain and horrendous deaths.

We also hear that although hard efforts are taking place in order to

control the number of stray dogs in a humane way, there are certain

people who undermine the whole operation just because they hate these

poor animals and have no heart.

It is totally clear that the only humane method to " eliminate " the

stray dogs' problem is far away from killing them. It is more than

rational that only a Humane Dog-Population-Control Programme carried out

would give a permanent solution to the problem. A country with such a

culture and religion which they both represent the peaceful coexistence

among all God's creatures, is expected to apply a corresponding attitude

to the matter. That is to say that we would expect people of your

country to consider animals as equal as human beings, who deserve a good

life instead of being murdered in the most horrific and appaling ways.

Rabies is a severe illness- that is true. But according to the

statistics (please take a look at SOFA's responsible work on this

matter) no rabies incident has taken place for a long time in Kandy. And

certainly animals vaccinated, sprayed and neutered CAN'T be sources of

sicknesses, infections, viruses e.t.c. It is just common sense. People

in your country must learn what really is going on. People like

Dr.Jayasinghe and his servants are not only hiding the truth but they

also twist the reality in order to kill more and more and more of our

defenseless, precious companions.

From the bottom of my heart, I urge you to inform your people what

is really going on. It is such a shame that a country with such a long

history and tradition cannot defend love, mercy and peaceful coexistence

of all God's creatures just because of a few people whose only concern

is to blacken your country's reputation by killing innocent animals.

We are anxiously waiting to hear from you soon, hopefully because all

this barbarism is finally stopped.

May God bless us all.

Sicerely yours,

Maria Nika,

Greece
