Dear Members of the No Kill City Forum,

In 2004 the No Kill Forum discussed at length our proposals on No

Kill and we selected representatives to meet with the new Secretary

of the Health, Food and Welfare Bureau, Dr York Chow, in January

2005. At the meeting Dr Chow listened to what we had to say and

promised to get back to us with his response.

We have been pushing for this reponse but have so far not

received any definitive answers. Dr Chow has however now replaced

the Director of the AFCD and has invited the same team as before to

meet with the new Director, Ms Stella Hung - perhaps with himself

present. We hope this meeting will take place before the end of this

month - we intend to go through the same proposals and demand

immediate response and action.

We shall emphasise again that control of the supply of animals onto

the market (breeding, importing and selling) is key to all aspects of

improving animal welfare. If the production of animals can be kept

low enough so that every animal born can be given a good home, then

the problems of lost, abandoned and abused animals will be greatly

alleviated. We have differing views on how to deal with the unwanted

animals but I believe we are united in how to prevent the surplus.

If anyone has any new ideas, please hit reply and tell us! If not, I

shall report back to this group after the meeting.

John,

Chair, No Kill City Forum.
