Guest guest
From PETA: Hi Everyone, As you all know by now, Hong Kong Fur and Fashion Week will take place next week, 25-28 February. This event will include a showcase of the pelts that are ripped from the bodies of animals who are born, bred and killed for their fur. Early this week, we sent out a news release about PETA Asia-Pacific's new Web site, HKFurFair.com, which is our first Web site in traditional Chinese. Prospective Fur and Fashion Week attendees who visit the site in search of information about the event will be in for a surprise. They will be confronted by video footage narrated by American domestic diva Martha Stewart that shows how animals in China (the world's leading producer of fur goods) are beaten to death or skinned alive. The video footage also shows that dogs and cats are crowded into tiny wire cages before they are killed for their skins. Last year, a PETA investigation exposed appalling abuse in the Chinese fur industry. It revealed that wire cages containing live animals are thrown from the backs of lorries – breaking or crushing the animals' limbs – and workers were caught beating animals and poking them with sticks. These images – as well as footage of animals who struggled desperately as their skin was peeled off – shocked the world and led to a pledge by Sir Paul McCartney and Lady Heather Mills McCartney to boycott China until this abuse is stopped. You can help stop this barbarism. We are looking for three or four volunteers to hold a protest at this event. We will pay for all expenses and, if time permits, send you any props you may need. Please consider sitting inside a cage at the entrance to the event or dressing up in a mascot costume while holding a sign. If you and your friends would like to coordinate this demo with the help of other PETA activists, please let me know as soon as possible so we can get started. We will also need a point-of- contact person that I can work with directly over email and phone. We will send out a news release to all Hong Kong news media the day before the protest in order to draw attention to it. We need to show the world that fur is dead and that we are willing to do what it takes to stop the bloody murder of millions of innocent fur-bearing animals. To view the video footage, please visit HKFurFair.com. We hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for everything that you do for animals, Rochelle Regodon Campaigns Manager People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia-Pacific Cell: +63 920-4974679
