Guest guest
As you can see, Asia will be well-represented at IPPL-2006. Still no visa for our Indonesian and for Pharanee Deter's sister, who will one day inherit the Highland Farm sanctuary. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx IPPL holds an international primate conference at our headquarters sanctuary every two years. This year's conference will be held from 24-26 March. I hope you'll be able to attend! We will have some great speakers, including: * Rita Miljo, founder of South Africa's Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education. Rita was recently prosecuted for trying to protect her country's native baboons from persecution. * Pharanee Deters, director of Highland Farm Gibbon Sanctuary, Thailand. Pharanee continued to run her sanctuary following the brutal murder of her husband and the entire animal care staff in May 2002. IPPL members have been helping support her sanctuary for several years. * Nicky Pulman, of the CERCOPAN monkey sanctuary in Nigeria. Efforts are under way to release many of CERCOPAN's guenon monkeys--who have been rescued from appalling conditions--into a safe, natural environment. * Chanee, who directs a gibbon sanctuary in Indonesia that is home to over 100 gibbons rescued from trade. Chanee also directs an FM radio station that features popular music interspersed with powerful wildlife protection messages. * Georgianne Nienaber, an author who traveled to Rwanda in 2005. She will talk about her visits with Dian Fossey's mountain gorillas and their trackers. You may also want to attend a Friday afternoon seminar prior to the main meeting. The topic will be " Caring in captivity: An international veterinary perspective, " with three primate specialist veterinarians leading the discussion (Drs. Simon Adams from the UK, James Mahoney from the US, and Ulrike Streicher from the primate rescue center in Vietnam). In addition, IPPL board member Dianne Taylor-Snow and I will update you on IPPL's work--and you will have the chance to meet the wonderful IPPL gibbons and view the new property recently acquired by IPPL for our sanctuary's expansion. Please call or e-mail for a registration packet, which includes information about lodging and transportation, a draft program, and a registration form. These will be sent to you by e-mail. Any attachments from IPPL are safe, we have a virus checker and a firewall. I hope you can join us. Shirley P.S. This year we will be holding our first-ever Silent Auction fundraiser! If you have an item you would like to donate, please let us know. We already have received some lovely contributions. Proceeds from the auction will be used to support IPPL's overseas partners.
