There don't seem to be any. All I can find is the Wild Animals And Birds Act which only covers wild animals. There appear to be no laws relating to domestic or other animals. Since there are no laws, interested people cannot find answers to questions they have concerning this case. Is the lack of animal cruelty laws the reason why it took 5 months to make an arrest despite eye-witness statements and filed police reports. What was the level of police engagement in helping break this case, given that the care-givers felt it was necessary to organise their own neighbourhood watches to try and catch the abuser in action. What deterrents are there to prevent the accused from again abusing cats/other animals. What is to prevent the accused from harming/harassing the eye-witnesses who testified against him. What mental evaluation/treatment/monitoring of the accused will be undertaken while in jail and on release. The brave and principled people who pursued this case despite opposition and apathy should be praised and protected. These citizens are examples of Singapore at its best, the type of people who see a wrong and try to right it, for the good of the whole community. The law abiding and contributing members of Singapore society deserve laws which reflect their concerns and contain measures to deal appropriately with the sort of issues raised above. __ On 7 Answers: Real people ask and answer questions on any topic. http://www.7.com.au/answers. Guest guest
Hi, Just to note that there are animal welfare laws in Singapore that cover all animals. Cruelty to animals is covered under the Animal and Birds Act (Chapter 7), Part IV. Penalties are a fine of up to $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
