Shocking ! Unbelievable ! But true.

Please read on...

A seminar, on Connectivity and Visa Issues between Bangladesh and

Northeast India, was organised by the South Asia Enterprise

Development Facility (SEDF) and BEI in Guwahati, Assam on 20th March

2006.

It was attended by over eighteen delegates from Bangladesh including

Experts from the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) its president

and former foreign secretary Farooq Sobhan.

India too was represented by a number of eminent delegates including

Mr. D.N. Srivastava, minister, economic affairs, Indian High

Commission in Dhaka.

Since the seminar was to discuss Connectivity and Visa Issues

between Bangladesh and Northeast India, therefore several

presentation were made to solve the logistics and enhance trade and

economics in this region of India and Bangladesh.

The SEDF which is assisted by the International Finance Corporation

( World Bank Group ) proudly distributed its Newsletter dated June

2005/ Issue 1 to the press and the attendees.

With reference to the above mentioned newsletter, page 5, one can

understand that the World Bank is providing assistance to activities

which indulge in illegal wildlife trade ( please correct me if I am

wrong in calling this trade promotion as ILLEGAL ).

Below is a paragraph from the Newsletter which writes :

" SEDF has assisted reptile farms Limited in obtaining Taka 24.3

million

( US $ 400,000 ) from Bangladesh Bank through the Equity

Entrepreneurship Fund. SEDF is also providing the project with TA on

technical resources, projects structuring, and market access.

Reptile Farms envisages setting up facilities for propagating,

growing and processing the saltwater crocodile to export skins,

meat, and bones. The facility will also support and promote

conservation of saltwater crocodiles in Bangladesh by propagation

through closed-cycle captive farming. This project is in keeping

with the Government of Bangladesh`s thrust to develop the

agricultural sector and agro-based industries and will contribute

towards expanding the country`s export basket. The project cost is

estimated at Taka 50.6 million ( US $ 850,000 ) and will be

Bangladesh`s first foray into internationally regulated exotic

leather trade. According to recent estimates this sector is worth

around US $ 77 Billion. "

Without wasting much time I would like to request anyone and

everyone to send protest letters to the SEDF, World Bank,

International Finance Corporation who are engaged in this multi

billion dollar illegal wildlife trade.

Is the IUCN, CITES listning ???

Dear Azam,

The World Bank principally exists to rape so called

Third World countries so this is nothing new. Please read the works of the

former World Bank Chief Economist Joseph Stiglitz to find out for yourself

what they are really up to. 'Spix's Macaw' written by Tony Juniper is also a

good reference for the World Bank's destructive activities.

Regards,

Sincerely yours,
