Re: School of animal behaviour

Dear Dr. Wedderburn,

Please be kind enough to send the school papers to

the aapn group. I finally have a home page:

www.orangutanlanguage.com

www.orangutanlanguage.com/ums/ethologycourse.html

I am also trying to buy land on the Kinabatangan river

in Sabah to protect and soon feed the wildlife there

that have nowhere to go. I need to save it forever

through a non profit organization.

Very best to you.

Francine

INTRODUCTION

We wish to establish an International School of Ethology (animal

behaviour) where generations of students can study animals in this

unique environment and thus protect species for future generations.

The school will attract local and international professors and a

great number of students, as it is the only one of its kind.

The exchange of valuable information, both technological and

zoological, will create joint publications with other internationally

recognized entities. This will place Sabah on the world map in the

field of the protection of endangered animal species.

Veterinarians who wish to have hands on experience with wildlife will

have the opportunity to do so. PhD. Candidates will be able to do

their thesis in the jungle and at the Orangutan rehabilitation center

of Sepilok. Students will obtain valuable practical and theoretical

experience.

THE SCHOOL OF ETHOLOGY

The school will provide a chance to study a variety of Bornean

animals in semi-captive and in jungle environments. The professors

and students will live in Sepilok PLUMS complex and at the University

in Kota Kinabalu for the theory.

Fields trips, films and videos will be used as teaching aids in

addition to Postgraduate Scientists giving lectures in their

respective fields.

Program

The courses are designed for international Students with a Bachelor

of Science degree. One month courses up to courses of one year.

The courses cover the following subjects:

ONE MONTH COURSE

needs to survive and reproduce.

the Sepilok rehabilitation Center.

Biologists )

PhD. Candidates are invited to do their thesis on specific animal

species.

Scientists will use the ultra modern facilities of the University of

Malaysia Sabah and have hands-on experience in the field. If they

wish, they can also give lectures to our students. The PhD thesis

will be published with their respective Universities, with a copy to

UMS. Veterinarians who wish to know wildlife will be invited to

participate.

EXISTING SUPPORT

The University of Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has taken this School of

Ethology under its umbrella.

Forty eight accommodations are ready for the students at ( PLUM ) 300

meters from the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center in Sepilok at Mile

14, Sandakan, Sabah, East Malaysia. A house is being built at the

beautiful Jungle Lodge for the professionals 100 meters from the

worksite.

International professors will participate in teaching the courses.

The students will study at the University (UMS) in Kota Kinabalu

Sabah and at the Sepilok Orangutan Center also in the jungle.

The University of Malaysia Sabah will issue a certificate of

completion for the given courses.

Important benefits to Sabah

Working under experts in their field, the students will gain

expertise allowing them to work in zoological gardens, veterinarian

clinics and safari parks the world over. Schools of animal behavior

in other countries have had to close down for lack of wildlife.

Sabah will benefit from an increase in academic levels through

exposure to international scientists, publication, documentary films

and videos. This can benefit also the whole of Malaysia and be pilot

project for other countries to follow in the field of education,

preservation and rehabilitation.

These courses will increase the importance of Sabah as a nature

tourism site.

Sabah has the unique sub species of elephants { Pigmy Elephants ) and

the proboscis monkey. We hope to be allowed to participate in Sabah's

efforts to protect these and other highly endangered animals species.
