Guest guest
Friday April 14, 2006 - The Star Let experts draw up pet rules EVERY now and then there are reports about some municipal council imposing new rules on dog owners. It appears that municipal councillors have a " dumb driven cattle " mentality. One council started it and now every one wants to play " follow the leader " . The question is why rules only for dogs? If people keep the gates closed, dogs cannot get in. Cats cannot be kept out. Cats climb over gates. Get into the houses and kitchens through windows. The only way to keep them out is to close all doors and windows – does that sound like a good and healthy way to live? Cats cause more diseases than dogs and this includes birth defects when pregnant women get infected. Barking of dogs is a nuisance as is the meowing of cats at all hours. Despite all that I have said, I would not object to anyone keeping dogs or cats. I love animals and it is a cruelty to animals when animals are deprived of good homes and love. Let the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the veterinarians come up with guidelines for pet owners. Councils should only enforce these guidelines. I am a senior citizen and I find that little children are a bigger problem than pets. The screaming and shouting all day long and often late into the night deprives one of peace round the clock. I cannot have a doorbell at my gate because these children keep ringing it. Does this mean that parents should get permission from neighbours before they are allowed to have children? PLAIN HUMAN, Seremban.
