Even as frightening reports of human deaths have been coming in continuously from different parts of the State, the State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has left out the village from its anti-rabies campaign which is located in Sadar Hills district but within the jurisdiction of Irilbung police station. It is reported that a mobile veterinary team led by one NGO administered ARVs to the canines of the village only today. But then a good number of pet dogs have already been slaughtered and feasted upon for fear of the fatal rabies. Talking to reporters who went there today, the villagers expressed resentment that the State Government remains indifferent to the plight of the villagers who are lagging behind others in several fields. Today's vaccination programme was organised by the Institute of Rural Development and Training Centre, Poiroukhongjin even though the village lies just in the periphery of Imphal city. About 200 canines were administered ARVs under the aegis of Joint Veterinary, Imphal East. Moreover, 20 dogs were also vaccinated by the mobile team in Tamaching village which is located on the way to Sandang Shenba village. It is reported that 150 dogs were also vaccinated again-st rabies in Wangjing Cherapur yesterday.
