They are not the Atul Kasbekars, Dabboo Ratnanis or Gautam Rajadhyakshas of the world of photography. However, these photographers from Kanpur are in demand overseas. With their expertise in wildlife and natural photography, Kanpur-based wildlife photographers are making good moolah in foreign countries by selling their photographs to overseas buyers through net and agencies. Ask Rishi Bajpai a wildlife photographer how his hobby turned into profession and he replies, " I used to click wildlife photographs as a part of my hobby but gradually, this hobby started turning into a part time profession for me. Now I have my own website and through this website I frequently get orders for my photographs from overseas buyers. Publishers from countries like England, Spain and Germany often purchase my wildlife photographs and for this they pay amounts somewhere around $200 to $500 per photograph. But clicking wildlife photographs is also a rather costly affair. " Similar is the case of another city-based wildlife photographer Neeraj Mishra: " Wildlife magazines, calendars or animal encyclopedias - many foreign publishers contact me for publishing my photographs. Seeing this I have also launched my website on which I showcase my work. I have also registered myself with some national and international photography agencies which frequently sell my wildlife photographs to well known publishers, " informs Neeraj Mishra. But why do photographs clicked by Kanpur wildlife photographs are hot in demand among international publishers? Reasons Vishal Seth, another city based wildlife photographer, " We might be using cameras of inferior quality in comparison to the wildlife photographers abroad, but we are fortunate that India is blessed with a lot of beautiful locations, which make the photographs very impressive. Be it the Bengal tigers, Asian lions, elephants, rhinoceros or the large variety of birds and butterflies, they all make for picture perfect material in their natural locales. This is the USP of the photographs clicked by us. Of course, the skill of the photographers is also important, " he adds. Also, the money earned by selling photographs to foreign publishers is a big lure for photographers. As Raman Kapoor, owner of a photography agency says, " Most of the photographers believe in selling their photographs to international publishers because of the good renumeration they get from them dollars, in comparison to which the price paid by Indian publishers is paltry, " he further adds.
