Guest guest
Hello dear members, Can anyone help me with this? Can anyone please explain why it is wrong to release birds especially for religious purposes? This is being done in Malaysia and I have read that to do this is cruel to the birds. I wish to have more infor on this so that I can raise public awareness to this problem which is being practiced by Buddhists everywhere. Buying birds from pet shops and releasing them is the practice in Malaysia. How and what must be done when people are genuinely interested in freeing the birds not on religious festivals but out of compassion for these captive birds? Should captive birds be given their freedom again and how are we to ensure their survival? Please help and thank you for your time in advance. Guest guest
Dear Yitze: Wild birds are trapped and transported to markets where they are sold to be released. Many die in the process of capture, more die under poor transport conditions, and others die after being released into inappropriate habitat, away from their flocks. If you want to stop the " supply, " you must stop the " demand, " and that goes for any kind of animal commodity. Guest guest
Dear all, In India, we have Jain community who buy pigeons from bird market & release them for Jeevdaya (Kindness towards life). Actully the pigeons outside temples & markets are fully trained. After releaseing the pigeons, they take a round in sky & comes back to original place. This is my personal experiance. We made the posters & created awareness outside temples. WHAT BEST IS TO STOP THE DEMAND FOR SUCH BIRDS THEN AUTOMATICALLY THE SUPPLY WILL STOP! Guest guest
The response was fine, they got awared with the issue. I am able to tell them that we are creating is demand by buying the pigeons from market instead they can go the nearst pigeon shelter / Pigoen Stall to feed the pigeons. Last year Rakhee Jain Group called me & asked me that Their Jain Maharaj wanted to release the birds. I told them not to buy but feed few birds on road side. but they did not listened. The Temple trustees went to Crawfard Market in bombay (One of the biggest market in India where you can by any exotic, wild animals, mammel, bird, fish, reptiles) puchased 200 pigoens which were cramped in big Bamboo Basket, brought to my city which is 50kms away from bombay long by train. Spend so much money in buying & transporting, then released in their fair. The Maharaj opened the basket cover in the middle of the road & all pigoen flew away before huge crowd. people clapped hands. despite of my small posters for awarness they went ahead. So as far as Jain community in concern they know this is wrong but follows what their Maharaj says! else other people, volunteers & many people I know they stopped buying birds. There was one girl in Mumbai, who use to buy pigeons, Hens from chicken shop, buffalos from slaughterhouse, goats from mutton shop & use to send them to pinjrapole(Shelter) by taking donations from local jain people. She was aware that she is buying & creating more demand but still she continued this stupid activity till she got married & shifted to USA. Once she without informing me, she dumped 2 chicks at my residence when I am not there. Those 2 chicks I raised for a year & then shifted them to bird shelter. She was member of India's largest group & also Animal Welfare Officer from AWBI & also belongs to Jain community. (Due to continously buying cattle from slaugter by such people, my local Bhiwandi Cattle Shelter is now full by accepting such cattle and not accepting any more cows which we found injured on road. Now my ambulances has to travel 60kms. long to BombaySPCA to hospitalise any cattle which is more traumatic for animals, hectic 4 volunteers & very expensive) If I openly write this, many don't like the facts but these are the experiances, Atlest I failed in convinceing them. as far as trained pigoens are concern, all most all people had stopped now from buying them.
