Guest guest
Wednesday May 17, 2006-The Star Boycott pet shops that ill-treat animals A RECENT visit to a pet shop left me disturbed and disgusted. On display in a kennel were two puppies, one of which looked underweight and unhealthy. The poor pup did not stand a very good chance of being bought. Which begs the question: what do pet shops do with puppies which are unsold? When I pointed out the unhealthy looking puppy to the sales assistant, she said the pup was just " putting on an act " . If we claim to be animal lovers, it is a crime to be indifferent; it makes us an accomplice to the heartless commercial pursuits of these rogue pet shops. If you intend to take home a pet from a pet shop, please boycott or question the shops if you notice that their " stock " appears ill-treated. The fact that pet shops may not have the best interests of the animals at heart should not come as a surprise as The Star had previously reported of a returned puppy which was left untreated to die a slow and painful death. To all pet shop owners, if you must profit from animals, at least have the decency to care for your " stock " . DOG'S LIFE, Petaling Jaya.
