Guest guest Posted June 7, 2006 Report Share Posted June 7, 2006 Link: www.assamtribune.com ( search in the 'state' column ) Illegal felling of `alom bilom' trees flayed From Our Correspondent DIPHU, June 6 – The Inglongpo Karbi Youth Association (IKYA) has strongly condemned the illegal felling of precious and age-old trees locally known as `alom bilom' at Singhason area and demanded immediate arrest of an executive member, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for his alleged involvement in the illegal felling along with two his associates, a press release said. The association also expressed surprise over the inaction of forest officials of the district on the issue, the release added. The IKYA further informed that these precious trees are found only in Himalayan range, Mousinram of Meghalaya and Singhason Hills in Karbi Anglong district. The IKYA also appealed to all sections of people and organisations of Karbi Anglong for attending their helping hand. KRA headquarters busted: The Asom and Nagaland police along with paramilitary forces busted the headquarters of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) at Golai Basti under Dimapur urban police station on May 28 last and arrested four KRA militants. The police also recovered a computer, photographs and documents etc., from the spot. According to information, Maiwe Passon, village headman of Dhansiri Kherrai Basti was kidnapped by five youths on May 26 belonging to Kuki, Adivashi, and Manipuri communities from Ngachang Kuki basti near Dhansiri and taken him to Dimapur by train on May 27 at around 8.45 am. After the kidnap Maiwe Passon was brought to Nagachang Kuki Basti by Thadou Dungel Kuki and Soiten Kuki from where he was taken into a deep forest. After receiving the information on May 28, the Dhansiri police outpost Managed to arrest Thadon Dungel and on May 29, a police team of Karbi Anglong led by Atul Gogoi, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Assam Police commandos conducted a search operation at Golai basti with the help of Nagaland Police and busted their camp.
