China to have its first seeing-eye-dog

After seeing the Japanese movie " Quill " , you may have been touched by

the cute seeing-eye-dog. The good news is that the seeing impaired in

China may have their own " Quill " in the near future.

 

A seeing-eye-dog training center was recently established in the

coastal city of Dalian.

SHANGHAI police have enlisted some four-legged helpers in the effort

to keep the city's Metro and light-rail lines safe.

 

Starting yesterday, a team of 30 sniffer dogs and their handlers

began prowling the mass transit system on the lookout for dangerous

substances.

 

The team - the first in the nation - is made up of 30 springer

spaniels and retrievers. The canine will carry out security missions

every day, mainly sniffing passengers' belongings for signs of

fireworks, paint and other flammable material.

 

The dogs joined the force after a three-month training program at

their base in Minhang District.

 

The Shanghai Rail Public Security Bureau said it deals with more than

1,000 reports of passengers carrying dangerous goods each year.
