Guest guest Posted June 19, 2006 Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 REPORT ON DONKEY HEALTH CHECK-UP & VACCINATION CAMP IN PANDHARPUR – PAWS & ASHA PROJECT PAWS – Plant & Animals Welfare Society ASHA – Association for Service & Healing Animals 5th JUNE 2006 (DAY 1) PAWS team left thane at 7.00pm with PAWS’s new Ambulance (funded by Animal Welfare Board) full with first aid medicines, life saving drugs & saline and rescue equipments. 6th JUNE 2006 (DAY 2) PAWS team comprising Shiv-Prasad Phadke, Vishal kantharia, Kishor Savle & Kunal Chheda visited the Animal Husbandry Dept & Pandharpur Police Station and made formal introduction about PAWS & ASHA. Team also surveyed the city & nearest villages for possible help to be given to the suffering animals in the city. Afternoon team started doing first aid of injured, maggot-wounded donkeys. The Team is able to treat around 30 donkeys which are inured. 7th JUNE 2006 (DAY 3) : PAWS team ordered the tetanus vaccines for donkeys. Then team rescued one female donkey which was later named ‘Monali’. She was lying injured near Bus Stand unattended. Her front right leg was fully maggot-wounded & totally eaten-up by maggots. Finally the team decided to rescue it. Then Dr. Bele the local surgeon was contacted by PAWS team. PAWS ambulance rescued the donkey & brought Dr. Bele’s clinic. There the donkey was operated for amputation surgery. Later was shifted to Shiv-Prasad’s Bungalow for post operative care. Then another female donkey found injured was brought to the clinic and operated for hove injury. Again Dr. Bele & his team operated the donkey. The owner did not appear so PAWS Animal Welfare Officer's Shiv-Prasad Phadke & Kishor Savle filed NC in police station. Then Dr. Bele operated the Donkey. Then the team started vaccinating the donkeys in the nearest villages. Since the team already surveyed the donkeys, the owners started bring them to the team for first-aid, medication & vaccination. Over 100 donkeys were vaccinated by PAWS team in the span of 4 hours. 8th JUNE 2006 (DAY 4) : More 100 donkeys are vaccinated against Tetanus in Pandharpur city. PAWS team thanked all the vets at the camp. After treating & giving first-aids the team left the city with donkey 'Monali'. Since the owner has abandoned the donkey on bus stop PAWS team decided to bring it to hospital in Thane. 9th JUNE 2006: The Donkey was admitted to the THANE SPCA Animal Hospital for post operative care.
