Guest guest
Moderator's note: I am allowing this post through even though it is not about Asia - the reason is that we in Asia will soon be needing the rest of the world's help in stopping new Dolphinariums here! John. ACTION ALERT: HELP STOP NEW DOLPHINARIUM IN FRANCE The so-called Grevin Group that owns the dolphinariums " Parc Asterix " in France and " Harderwijk " in Holland are trying to open a dolphinarium in their newly acquired safari park " Planète Sauvage. " The park is located just 20 km from the One Voice office in Nantes, France. With your help, we may be able to stop this bad idea. The justification for establishing yet another dolphinarium in France is a highly questionable study into dolphin communication. To carry out their plans, Planète Sauvage must first obtain a permit to keep dolphins at their facility. If we can generate hundreds of letters to the proper decision makers, we can influence the outcome. Please note that this is a long-term campaign and more information will become available later. At this FIRST STAGE of the campaign, we are asking everyone to write a short letter requesting that Planète Sauvage is not given a permit to keep dolphins. You can simply copy and paste the first sentence in the French sample letter below. Please add one or two sentences in your own language telling the decision-makers why you think this so-called science project should not go forward. In STAGE TWO we will ask marine mammal specialty NGOs to counter the arguments presented by Planète Sauvage in their effort to justify confining dolphins to a tank. Please address your letter to Mr. Jean Claes and cc the other two officials. (You will find all addresses below.) In this particular case, emails simply won't work, so we will need to send our letters by regular mail. SAMPLE LETTER IN FRENCH: Cher Mr. Claes, Je vous écris pour vous demander de ne pas autoriser le parc Planète Sauvage, situé à Port Saint Père, à détenir des dauphins. (Translation: I am writing to ask you to please not give Planète Sauvage, the park located in Port Saint Père, a permit to hold dolphins.) Dolphins are free-ranging, large-brained, self-aware and sonic creatures that do not belong inside of a concrete box. Please do the right thing and vote NO on the captive dolphin issue, thus keeping Nantes dolphin friendly.
