Guest guest
www.assamtribune.com Tuskers cause havoc near Golaghat From Our Correspondent DERGAON, June 29 – Following continued depredation by elephants and tigers, the public today locked the Quani forest beat office today. According to information received, sustained intrusions by these animals at Phalangani area under Golaghat district have created a tense situation. A herd of wild elephants damaged the houses of Ismail Git and Suresh Tanti of Soutali village under Quani Beat office last night. Later in the morning the public went to the Beat office and in the absence of the Beat officer, the people locked the office. On the other hand a female tiger with her cub attacked two persons at Kuwatipara village in Phalangani area a couple of days ago. They continue to prowl the area and add to the tension of the residents. The public has made arrangements to kill the tiger in self-defence, if necessary. The Golaghat Forest department has failed to control the situation. In this regard, the DFO, Diganta Barbaruah has adopted an indifferent attitude.
