Founded in 1980, PETA is dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on or use for entertainment. PETA Asia-Pacific is currently accepting applications for the following full-time positions: 1. Hong Kong Fundraising Manager (based in Hong Kong) 2. Hong Kong Media and Campaigns Assistant (based in Hong Kong) 3. Special Projects Coordinator and Assistant to the Director (based in the Philippines) 4. Asian Media Assistant (based in the Philippines) Details are below. 1. Hong Kong Fundraising Manager Position Objective To coordinate the development, implementation and execution of successful fundraising strategies and to manage all fundraising support systems – including acknowledgements, donation processing and data, graphic designs, print productions and mailings – to ensure that all fundraising in the Asia-Pacific region is done as efficiently as possible Primary Responsibilities and Duties • Develop successful fundraising strategies for use with donors and prospective donors by utilising a variety of techniques, including direct-dialogue fundraising, direct marketing, direct personal pitching to corporations and organisations, online marketing, retailing, franchising and fundraising events • Coordinate all aspects of PETA Asia-Pacific’s membership programme, including fundraising events, in order to increase the amount of annual income which comes from donors • Attend seminars and courses in order to be knowledgeable about current trends, regulations and techniques in fundraising • Supervise the donation-processing and database-management systems in order to ensure accuracy and data integrity and to ensure that acknowledgements and other correspondence are handled in a professional and timely manner • Prepare analytical reports as requested by the supervisor • Build and develop relationships with direct-marketing and other fundraising agencies and suppliers in order to maximise cost-effective, successful fundraising campaigns • Take on additional related special projects as assigned by the supervisor Qualifications • Commitment to animal protection work and PETA Asia-Pacific’s objectives • One to three years of fundraising experience, ideally with experience in at least two of the following areas: direct sales, corporate giving, direct mail and retailing • Good working knowledge of computers, ideally with an understanding of database analysis and segmentation • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact appropriately with members and supporters about sensitive and personal subjects • Professional appearance and presence • Strong initiative and the ability to work independently • Accuracy and attention to detail • Experience managing confidential information • Ability to travel to meet with donors and supporters, occasionally in the evening and on weekends • Fluency in both spoken English and Cantonese, and preferably Mandarin as well • Fluency in written English and traditional Chinese, and preferably simple Chinese as well 2. Hong Kong Media and Campaigns Assistant Position Objective To manage and coordinate PETA Asia-Pacific’s media work throughout the Asia-Pacific region, as assigned by the director Primary Responsibilities and Duties • Coordinate and manage a media plan and an agenda of issues which can be released in Asia • Organise and maintain a database of Chinese celebrities • Draft and mail letters to celebrities and others, as needed • Organise and regularly update an Asian media database • Review news releases from the offices of other PETA affiliates and make recommendations about their potential effectiveness in Asia • Develop ideas to increase celebrity involvement in animal issues • Send out news releases (working with other PETA Asia-Pacific representatives), make follow-up and pitch calls to the media, and work to keep PETA Asia-Pacific’s campaigns in the media spotlight • Coordinate the translation of materials, as needed • Coordinate the production of Chinese versions of PETA ads • Communicate with media outlets around the country and encourage them to run stories by providing them with materials (e.g., ads and exclusives) • Assist with demonstrations and photo shoots, when needed • Direct media calls to the proper people • Travel when necessary for meetings, demonstrations and other activities • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor Qualifications • Outgoing and personable manner, with exceptional communication skills • Excellent writing skills • Fluency in English, and preferably in other Asian languages as well • Ability to deal patiently with the media • Proven, thorough knowledge of all animal rights issues • Support for PETA Asia-Pacific’s philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA Asia-Pacific’s positions on issues • Ability and willingness to travel, if necessary • Computer proficiency • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation • Previous activist experience preferred 3. Special Projects Coordinator and Assistant to the Director Position Objective To assist the director with projects, general administrative tasks and day-to-day operations Primary Responsibilities and Duties • Communicate on behalf of the director regarding campaigns and celebrity involvement • Respond to voice-mail and e-mail inquiries in the director’s absence • Maintain contact lists, files and databases (including celebrity and photo-shoot databases) • Maintain PETA Asia-Pacific’s standard operating procedures • Organise news conferences and social events with the help of the campaign coordinator • Help to coordinate special events, including celebrity photo shoots and tapings, using discretion and independent judgment • Assist with the general activities of PETA Asia-Pacific • Help to coordinate celebrity-outreach efforts through activities such as conducting research, drafting letters and making follow-up calls • Perform any other duties as assigned by the director Qualifications • Exceptional writing abilities, especially in composing and editing letters • Ability to make sound judgment and work independently • Ability to deal with a wide range of people in a professional manner • Diplomacy, friendliness and patience • Ability to take initiative and follow through • Proven strong organisational skills and attention to detail • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines • Exceptional oral communication skills in English, and preferably in other Asian languages as well • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns • Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA Asia-Pacific’s philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA Asia-Pacific’s positions on issues • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation 4.
