Guest guest
Dear Sir, First of all, I would like to congratulate you and your newspaper for the revealing article concerning IISc's 40-year hell. My country lies far away from Bangalore but such issues are trully of international importance and concern. It is a great shame that such people regard themselves as " scientists " while they impose so much unnecessary pain and torture to innocent animals. If monkeys were used to research contagious diseases like AIDS, tuberculosis or hepatitis, it's shameful that IISc pinches pennies in rehabilitating them through NGOs! Do they not care for the safety of both man and animal around Bangalore? We must ask why IISc must bear the cost of rehabilitation within the 500 acres of the city space that the institution occupies, which houses merely a few hundred students and faculty? That's where IISc's shame must be displayed in full! We demand that the unethical Primate Research Laboratory be shut down immediately. The Institute must pay to restore the released monkeys to safety. The government must restore people's faith that the Indian Institute's Sci(l)ence is not a shameful grant game of science. Since the Indian nation and culture are known basically for their aspect of protecting animals and promoting the peaceful coexistence of all creatures, all the world expect an immediate and humane solution to be applied. Yours sincerely, Maria Nika, Greece
