Guest guest
From Ms. Suparna Ganguly of CUPA/WRRC. Bangalore, India www.cupabangalore.org The three monkeys that were caught from the Satanur Forests are presently at the CUPA shelter in Bangalore and will be sent to the Bannerghatta Rehabilitation Center facility over the week end. The fate of the other 17 monkeys is not known. At the emergency meeting convened at the behest of the Ethics Committee, it was admitted by the IISc personnel that there was a serious lapse in their failing to inform the Ethics Committee members of the decision to release the animals . They have agreed to hand over all the remaining animals to CUPA, WRRC or any other NGO and are willing to consider upkeep and maintenance costs, keeping in mind that NGOs do not have the resources to take lifetime care of the animals. The Chief Wildlife Warden has withdrawn the permissions given by the State Forest Department, who were unaware that there was an Ethics Committee clearance that needed to be taken before permissions could be applied for. The matter has been communicated to the CPCSEA . The CPCSEA is currently working on the matter of rehabilitation of laboratory animals and drawing up a draft notification.
