The leopard has paralysis and was to be put to sleep but now Ratan Tata has come forward to help save the beautiful animal's life. Nineteen-year-old Laxmi was given mild shock therapy to stimulate her hind legs. This is an attempt by veterinary doctors at Mumbai's Byculla zoo to treat her paralysis. Seven months ago the doctors at the zoo realized Laxmi was dragging herself around. Hind legs paralysed Tests showed that her hind legs were paralysed. " We have tried our level best. We called experts from the Bombar Vetnary college. But it has not really helped. It could be because the leopard is 19 years old and any ways the lifespan of leopards is 20 years, " said Dr Manohar Karawale, Deputy Suprintendent of police. Laxmi's condition was so severe that the zoo improvement committee - a body formed to look after the welfare of animals - recommended that she be put to sleep. But now some hope seems to be in sight as industrialist Ratan Tata has come forward to pay for Laxmi's treatment, after an NGO suggested that it could help treat Laxmi. Now a specialist from South Africa will fly down very soon to treat her. And now with the experts coming from abroad to help, Laxmi might just have a second chance.
