Guest guest
www.assamtribune.com Cattle smuggling on in Mankachar border From Our Correspondent HATSINGIMARI, Aug 16 – While nation-wide sensation prevails regarding Indo-Bangladesh border issue on disputed Boraibari ie 571 bighas of land illegally occupied by Bangladesh, a case of border smuggling has come to light when the Assam police headed by SP Dhubri, PK Dutta and SDPO, Hatsingimari, PK Brahma caught 31 bulls and oxen from Katholbari area under Mankachar police station that were moving towards Bangladesh border. Sources said that about one hundred cattle were moving towards Bangladesh border when the SP, Dhubri and SDPO, Hatsingimari were on their way to Mankachar. As they came to know that the cattle purchased from Bihar would be smuggled to Bangladesh, they chased the herd and could catch only 31 bulls and oxen. It is to be noted that cattle smuggling has been continuing through Mankachar border taking the benefit of the darkness of night and making holes on the barbed fencing along border. From Shishumara to Mankachar one can notice hundreds of such man-made holes on the fencing through which smuggling of various commodities including cattle etc. has been going on day and night. The local people have alleged that the BSF jawans guarding the border are also associated with such activities.
