A rare bison that strayed from the Manas National park was killed by the

villagers of Amguri,Kokrajjhar Dist. The people when questioned by the forest

people pretended not to know about the animal that it was endangered. After it

was killed some interested persons belonging to an NGO, tried to educate the

people using the dead animal ,how important conservation was and many more ,but

the animal was later away forcefully aand all ended in a hearty meal. The

Divisional Forest Officer tried his best to save the animal, that was spotted

after 2 decades in the area. The full grown beautiful animal of five to six

years of age was on the run when a group of villagers(tribals) armed with bows

and arrows went after it the moment they spotted it. After getting the

information the forest officials immediately rushed to the spot to rescue the

animal. The DFO ,said that ,with the villagers on hot pursuit, the bison was

trappedin a pit and became a sitting duck for the attackers. The

NGO ,when it tried to teach the villagers about the value of the animal as it

was highly endangered. The villagers snated it for its meat and all the forest

officials helplessly stood staring. Its funny that the forest officials could not

save the carcas of a bison.
