Guest guest
Fifth Notice - August 24th 2006 JAPAN DOLPHIN DAY Let's get it right - just once! The fishermen in Taiji told us they wouldn't kill any dolphins without a permit from Tokyo. Some of the younger fisherman told us that they don't want to do it any longer. If enough people show up for Japan Dolphin Day it will put an enormous amount of pressure on the decision-makers in Tokyo and we could impact on the permitting process. Japan Dolphin Day was organized with the intention of getting hundreds of thousands of people to show up in front of the international Japanese embassies and consulate offices around the world. The event was not designed for a few staff members from the various NGOs to show up. It's all about getting our members to show up. So far, we have not been successful in accomplishing this goal, but we are on the right track. Perhaps things will change after we realize that this is indeed the world's largest cetacean slaughter. If all of the international NGOs were to get behind Japan Dolphin Day we could see 100,000 protesters in front of the various Japanese embassies and consulate offices this year. There are millions of members of various animal welfare groups around the world. The problem is, we are not doing enough to reach them. The demo was designed to attract schools, bands, children, clubs, dolphin trainers, anyone and everyone, including the animal protection community. Unfortunately, the general public still has no idea that Japan Dolphin Day is happening - or why it's happening. Part of Japan Dolphin Day effort is about reaching everybody. So far - working almost alone - I have enlisted about 40 NGOs in about 25 international cities. Imagine if there were ten more people doing exactly the same thing that I'm doing everyday. We could indeed have 100,000 protesters turn up on September 20th, and that would have a major impact in Tokyo - no question about it. That kind of a demo would also attract the international media, big-time. It becomes a story in itself. The Japanese government spin machine could not deal with that kind of public relations disaster. It would be a meltdown for the drive fisheries! If we ever get it right - just once - we may never have to do it ever again.
