Guest guest
From Centre for Science and Environment (CSE)'s Fortnightly News Bulletin [August 24, 2006]: Request for information on attacks by pesticide industry The Indian pesticide industry is increasing the intensity of its attacks against environmentalists and activists. Just in the past one month, we have received two legal threats from the industry associations. We also know of many others who the industry has tried to intimidate and gag. We know that these are the favourite tactics of the corporate world. In the US, these cases are called SLAPP suits - Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation. We are of course replying to the legal notices. We also know that all other activists are fighting back. But it would help if we could collate this information so that we can gain strength from the collective. Please do inform us about any cases that have been filed by the pesticide industry against individuals, institutions or media because of their work or writings on pesticide contamination. We will post all these cases together so that everyone understands how the pesticide industry is trying hard to stifle public concern. We will look forward to hearing from you. -- Sunita Narain, Chandra Bhushan, Kushal Yadav and the rest of the CSE team Please contact>> media
Guest guest
These tactics are nothing new. They were used half a century ago, by DDT manufacturers to intimidate and harass Rachael Carson.
