Guest guest
Police call off search for boy taken by crocodile *11 Sep 2006-New Straits Times* ------------------------------ *KUCHING: Police yesterday called off the search operation for a boy believed to have been killed by a crocodile at the mouth of Sarawak River in Kampung Bako near here on Sept 3. * The operation mounted by the Fire and Rescue Department, Sarawak Marine Department and marine police with boats at the lower reaches of the river was called off at 5pm today, said Gita police station head Sub-Inspector Samsudin Hassan. However, he said, the villagers and Rela members would continue their search for Mohd Azuan Hatta, 12, who was believed to have been taken by an estuarine crocodile while swimming with a friend. Samsudin said police would continue to monitor the search. Meanwhile, three of the seven pieces of bait set by a bomoh (traditional medicine man) to entice the crocodile at the upper reaches of the river were said to have been eaten by a crocodile. The bomoh, Cheek Inu from Gedong who has a reputation for capturing crocodiles, laid the bait with carcasses of monkeys and dead chickens last Wednesday. This croc did not do it *14 Sep 2006* *KUCHING: They caught one but it turned out to be the wrong crocodile. * When a dead crocodile was found floating in Sungai Bako on Tuesday night, there was high expectations among villagers that it marked the end for the beast which attacked 12-year-old Mohd Azuan Hatta on Sept 3. But the jubilation was short- lived. Villagers cut open the crocodile's belly and found only chicken, and not human remains, in it. The two-metre-long cro- codile had apparently snapped the chicken bait placed by a bomoh buaya hunting for the killer crocodile. " It is not my son's killer, " said an emotional Hatta Abidin yesterday. The 36-year-old father said he was so confident they had found the killer crocodile when villagers informed him that one was found floating in the river. The carcass was then towed to the village's jetty where villagers were waiting. " But after seeing its size, I was not that sure any more. " The one that killed my son is bigger judging from the size of its prints on the river bank. " Hatta's suspicion was confirmed when the crocodile's stomach was cut open. " There were some pieces of chicken and crabs but no human bones or flesh, " he said. Earlier, word that a croco- dile had been found spread like wildfire bringing scores of villagers from surrounding villages to Kampung Bako. Some came from as far as Telaga Air, 40km away, just to get a glimpse of the crocodile said to have killed the Sekolah Kebangsaan Bako pupil. Azuan was snared by a crocodile while looking for crabs on the river bank not far from his house, a day before he was to sit for his Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah examination. His friend, Sulaiman Matsakani, 15, survived the attack.
Guest guest
Dear animal friend, thanks for remembering me. Unfortunately people turn to madness unter the depression caused by the loss of a beloved one in such a way and animals are the first to pay for it. Hopefully this event will discourage these people from hunting the shadow of a " beast " . Please keep me informed, if it's not a disturbance. I would really like to know how this story ends.
