Guest guest
Front page news in Thailand last few days: When animal advocate lawyer Sanya Sukrasorn's office cat Mimi was poisoned on Friday he immediately reported it to the police. Since he didn't have much hope that they would find out who did it, he wanted to make a big fuss in the news. The journalists were willing to cooperate because the Journalist Association has agreed to support animal welfare issues. Sanya took Mimi to the temple had her body blessed by a monk and had her cremated. This was reported on the TV news and also in the press. Then the journalists were contacted by the Northern Thai Culture Council who condemned Sanya's actions. Spokes person and committee member Wanlop Namwongtrom stated that poisoning cats had been going on for a long time. It was part of Thai Culture! There was no need to make a big fuss over it! When he in turn was condemned for this statement by the Bangkok Culture Council, Wanlop still defended the cat killers by saying: It's a northern tradition! Stay out of it Bangkok!
