Guest guest
Thursday September 28, 2006 - The Star Stop the cruel sickos before they turn their attention on people I AM disturbed by your report about seven puppies whose front right paws and tails were amputated by someone tying rubber bands around them until they dropped off from lack of blood supply, " Cruel treatment of puppies shocks vets " (*The Star*, Sept 27). Though Seberang Prai Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Seberang Prai president Dr Roland Lim has said a very cruel person had done the act. I beg to differ. It is not cruelty behind such an act. Rather, it is the work of a sick mind. And I am very disturbed because whoever has been sick enough to do this on animals will in time progress to try out his sick acts on human beings. It is just a matter of time that we will find ourselves reading in newspapers about what the sicko has done to some unfortunate fellows. To prevent such a thing, it is important for the authorities to wake up instead of complacently thinking: " Well, as such things happen only to dogs, it's okay. " They should revise the law on cruelty to animals to carry heavier penalties, including committing such sick people to mental asylum instead of imposing the maximum fine of RM200, as is the case now. The public should wake up too: If you see a guy abusing helpless animals, and do nothing, then do not complain one day when the guy should do something to your own kin. As such, let no one, authorities or public, do nothing about bringing justice for the seven unfortunate puppies. *MOHD JAMIL ABDULLAH, Penang.*

Guest guest
I have personally witnessed people at vet. clinics abusing their animals, a slap on the face, a hit on the head, or pulling on their leash very harshly. Many people give disapproving looks, but don't dare to speak up for the animal. The times when I have approached the owner, they get nervous or give me dirty looks. My concern is; what happens to the animal after a person is confronted and made look like a fool in front of others, do they go home and beat the animal some more, probably harder? If they loose it in public, how is this animal suffering at home, and how much more will he suffer when the owner decides to make him pay for being ambarrassed. I am sure he puts all blame on the animal. Thanks, Liz OAARS yitzeling <yitzeling wrote: Thursday September 28, 2006 - The Star Stop the cruel sickos before they turn their attention on people I AM disturbed by your report about seven puppies whose front right paws and tails were amputated by someone tying rubber bands around them until they dropped off from lack of blood supply, " Cruel treatment of puppies shocks vets " (*The Star*, Sept 27).
