Guest guest
Dear Sir, I am an animal advocate from Greece and I would like to express my regret and disappointment for the cruel, unacceptable practices that your country persists to apply in order to capture and kill dolphins. Pictures and videos showing Japanese hunters trapping a terrified pod of dolphins in a cove before netting their victims and cutting their throats out with large knives is certainly a disgrace for a civilized country. These gentle, intelligent mammals can be seen thrashing about in agony in a blood-red sea, some taking up to 10 minutes to die from their wounds. Upwards of 20,000 dolphins and porpoises will be butchered by fishermen off the coast of Japan in the next six months, if the Japanese Government does not ban the 400-year-old hunting tradition. Certainly " tradition " cannot be used as an excuse for such barbaric, inhumane actions. After all, " tradition " does not mean " survival " . If we are talking about food, people can eat something else and not dolphin meat. If we are talking about amusement, it is certainly not amusement watching animals suffering in captivity in aquariums. As a country with such a long history and civilisation tradition, Japan should stop immediately such atrocities and take care of preservation of dolphins and whales as natural treasures. Yours sincerely, Maria Nika Greece
