Event of Pushing Forward Animal Welfare Legislation

On October 28, 2006, Beijing Human and Animal Environmental Education Center

organized an event with the topic of " Adding to the prestige of the 2008 Olympic

Games by pushing forward the animal protection legislation " . The event aims at

promoting the process of animal welfare legislation and calling on the elevation

of people's concept of feeding companion animals in a more civilized way.

Participants include the environmental and animal protection societies from over

20 universities in Beijing, " Roots and Shoots " clubs of WAB (Western Academy of

Beijing) and ISB (International School of Beijing), the volunteers, and the

elites of varied sectors who are concerned with animal protection.

Mdm Zhang Luping, the founder of the BHAEEC, delivered a speech expressing her

concerns of the current status of animals' living conditions in China and her

comments on the outbreak of the rabies. She suggest the government to promulgate

an animal welfare law to manage the animals and the pet owners in a scientific

way. The representatives of the participants also delivered speeches on the

issue and expressed their wish for the legislation.

BHAEEC Needs Your Support!

As you may already know, BHAEEC has faced great difficulties since early this

year, after Mars Inc. stopped its sponsor of animal food to the center. This

problem has not been solved yet, and we have to purchase the food for over 600

animals, with the limited support from our volunteers and the people who love

animals.

In July, the center has been confronted with another big problem. Many staff of

the center have left recently due to the heavy workload in summer. The center is

located in the remote suburb, and the daily work is very boring and tiring,

which results in a very limited resource of staff recruitment. Every year, Mdm

Zhang Luping has to travel to the countryside of many provinces looking for the

people who are willing to work at the center. Staff turnover rate has been very

high since the very beginning of the establishment of BHAEEC. The current

situation is that there are only 5 staff in total taking care of over 600

animals. Zhang Luping herself has to stop every other thing and stay at the

center working together with all the staff. However, nobody knows who will be

the next one to leave, and when he/she will go.

It's now the most difficult time for the center. We would highly appreciate it

if you could offer a hand and provide support in any way. We set out below what

we need from you, just for your kind reference.

1.dog food and cat food;

2.more volunteers who are willing to take any kind of the work for the center,

e.g. wash the animals, weeding, feeding the animals, cleaning the dog/cat

compounds, etc.;

3.adopting an animal from the center;

4.sponsoring an animal from the center;

5.introducing the BHAEEC to your friends and, if possible, the enterprises who

might be interested in sponsoring;

6.Any other things that can help BHAEEC.

We take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has

supported us, and we will try our best to continue our cause, to rescue the

discarded and abused companion animals, and to push forward the realization of

animal protection legislation in China.
