SOME NOTABLE FIELD CALLS: ## On 24th October PAWS volunteer Shiv-Prasad & Kunal noticed an injured horse pulling a cart despite its wounds. Along with Kishor they rescued it and sent it to BOMBAY SPCA where it was treated and will be retained. If the owners come to ask for the custody, they will be charge shited in Police Station. Around 13 Snake Charmers were sitting near kalyan Station with variety of Snakes. When PAWS office received information about 12 snake charmers in Kalyan with a number of snakes in their possesion the team immediately swung into action. PAWS volunteers gathered at Range Forest Office but since it was the day of Diwali, the RFO office & Thane Wildlife Offices were closed.h owever the snake charmers made good their escape and our team could rescue only one healthy rat snake, six feet long with the help of the police. The Rat Snake was later released in Forest area of Yeour. ##It was past midnight in Thane when PAWS trustee Anuradha on her way back home came upon a suffering dog with maggot wounds lying on the roadside and crying in pain. Paws Ambulance rushed to its help at 1.30am. and the dog was hospitalized in Thane SPCA animal hospital. HATS OFF TO‘KISHOR’, OUR RESCUE STAFF CUM VOLUNTEER WHO WILLINGLY RUSHES TO HELP OUT DURING AN EMERGENCY. HE IS INDEED THE PILLAR OF OUR STRENGTH! ## One small Checkered Kill Back Snake was rescued by PAWS volunteers Vishal & Trustee Nilesh on 28th November. People in Nehru ground were So scared that they burnt tyres near their house to keep it at bay. They even called police but PAWS team swung into action and rescued the beautiful Checkered Kill Back Snake. …………………………………………………………………… 3. ANTI-RABIES DRIVE IN DOMBIVLI: PAWS team comprising Anahita, Vishal, Sonali, Anuradha, Nilesh, Shivprasad, Kunal, Lalita, Priyanka, Kishor conducted the monthly Anti-Rabies vaccination drive at Manujanth School area, Kalyan Road,Dombivli west. Over 60 dogs were vaccinated within three hours. Stray Dogs Care-takers Shri Ashok Gogate & Mrs. Sheetal Nagle helped us with this. Our local volunteers are of great help in animal issues. People interested in helping snakes, tonga horses, cows, dogs etc keep coming to us . We train them in helping animals of their choice and we have volunteers for life who help rescue cases from time to time. We teach our volunteers each aspect of animal Welfare and animal rights. More volunteers bring us more strength that enables us to do more rescue work! That’s what we feel. PAWS PICNIC TO DAHANU ON 3RD & 4TH PAWS team decided to have small outing, so entire team visited the beautiful beach of Dahanu in the western suburb of Thane. We also conducted a snake rescue program here along with Dahanu’s animal welfare group in which some captive snakes were rescued. PAWS team including Vishal, Kunal, Prasad, Kishor, Nilesh,Sushil, Shrikant enjoyed this outing. …………………………………………………………… ………………………………. 6. MUMBAI ZOO – EMPTY EYES & SAD LIVES: PAWS Mumbai & PAWS Thane, carried out separate visits to the Mumbai Zooand made a small report about its pathetic condition. This was carried in several news papers and All these years no one except PETA had high lighted the plight of zoo animals publicly. Media has been giving attention to PAWS’s work in the past few years. VEGAN RECEIPE: Recipe: Creepy Cobweb Cupcakes Get ready for Halloween! Treat yourself to smart, tasty goodies that are free of animal products and cholesterol. Get everyone together for a creative cooking excursion because these Creepy Cobweb Cupcakes are fun and easy to prepare. It’s a great way to enjoy a decadent cruelty-free holiday. Cupcake Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups whole wheat pastry flour 2 cups fine brown sugar 2/3 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened 2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 2 cups + 6 Tbs. water 6 Tbs. oil 2 Tbs. vinegar 1 Tbs. vanilla Icing & Cobwebs: 3 cups powdered sugar 1/4 cup margarine (preferably Earth Balance), softened 3-4 Tbs. soymilk 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 4 tsp. shortening (spectrum is non-hydrogenated) Directions: Whisk dry ingredients together well in a medium bowl. Blend liquid ingredients in a blender until smooth, then pour into dry ingredients and mix briefly with a whisk until smooth (do not beat, or the cake will be tough). Spoon into 18 greased muffin cups (if they are lined with paper cups, spray the insides of the paper cups with oil spray). Bake at 350º F for 20-25 minutes. Cool on a rack thoroughly before frosting. Icing & Decorations: Combine sugar and margarine in small bowl; beat at low speed, scraping bowl often and gradually adding enough soymilk for desired spreading consistency. For cobwebs, melt chocolate chips and shortening in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until smooth (3-4 minutes). Place melted chocolate in small heavy-duty re-sealable plastic food bag; snip tip from one corner to make very small hole; squeeze bag several times to combine ingredients. Frost 6 cupcakes at a time, using about 1 Tbs. frosting for each cupcake. Before frosting hardens, place 3 concentric circles of melted chocolate on frosting. Starting at center, draw toothpick 5- 6 times through circles to outside edge of frosting to make cobweb design. Repeat with remaining cupcakes.
