Virginia McKenna appeals to 'Cartier' for a second time

Virginia McKenna, OBE, Chair of Trustees, The Born free Foundation,

UK, is the 149th person to sign the online petition. She has

appealed for a second time to 'Cartier Inc' against elephant use in

the Jaipur 'elephant polo' and the withdrawl of the sponsor.

 

Her message reads,

 

" We are now asked by Cartier to believe that the elephants are not

actually going to play polo but `ramble about the field' in

this `Alternative Elephant Polo event'. Whatever the choice of words

the principle is wrong. Whether elephants `ramble', play polo,

whether or not the ankush is used, this issue has become a catalyst

for the way we treat these sensitive, intelligent creatures. For

their sake we must not fail them. "
