*Dear All,*

* Star Ananda, the national Bengali channel, partner of Star

News and Sky News(UK), gave extensive coverage to the Elephant Polo

controversy several times today, 19th November, 2006. Actor Zayed Khan was

present during the match. Juhi Chawla and Mohammed Azharuddin were

interviewed and both gushed about now lovely it was to attend such an event

and what a wonderful experience it was watching elephants play polo. Footage

also revealed Azharuddin's wife Sangeeta Bijlani, riding an elephant and

waving to the crowd. Maharani Gayatri Devi was shown inaugurating the match.

Footage of the match and the accompanying protest with the banner saying

'Cartier: Time to stop Elephant Cruelty' was also shown. The litigation was

mentioned in the news capsule. Mr Kadiyan has informed me the hearing for

the PIL is on Monday, 20th November, 2006. From the footage I observed, the

elephants were not ambling, they were being made to run. As Azam said,

there were extensive arrangements made to cover their injuries and wounds

with cloth and jewellery. Juhi Chawla and Shand were shown laughing

together. I do not know if Star News in English or Hindi carried the news,

if anyone of you saw it, please post your message on AAPN. MSNBC has also

carried the Elephant Polo controversy news

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15766128/ .* *From AAPN to CNN, word on this

event seems to have spread reasonably widely.*

* Regards,*

**

* Sincerely,*

* *
