Guest guest
I just wanted to recommend the book " Super Baby Food " by Ruth Yaron. You can get it used on Amazon starting at around $7, or even check it out at your local library. I can not speak highly enough of the book. Here is the review from Amazon... " Ruth Yaron cares deeply about what your baby is eating--so much so that her bestselling Super Baby Food is encyclopedic in both scope and size. Ounce for hefty ounce, this manual/cookbook/reference guide is worth its weight in formula, packed as it is with detailed information on homemade baby food, nutritional data, feeding schedules, cooking techniques, recipes, and other invaluable feeding tips. Yaron builds her compelling argument for making baby food at home on the simple premise that food profoundly impacts health, especially when an infant's developing digestive tract is involved. Parents will learn why babies should start out on rice porridge, bananas, avocados, and sweet potatoes before advancing to more difficult-to-digest foods such as wheat cereals and milk products. While Yaron's passionate stance and vegetarian bias may turn off some parents, others will be grateful for her strict attention to potentially harmful additives and chemicals. No matter what their eating philosophy, most parents will appreciate the economy and surprising ease of making baby food at home. This is not gourmet cooking; all you have to do is learn how to boil water and operate a blender. For veggies, simply steam some vegetable chunks and blend. For baby porridge, just grind some whole grains in a blender and boil. It's that simple. And when you're feeding your baby, simple is best. The evidence incriminating cow-milk consumption in the cause of type 1 diabetes is sufficient to cause the American Academy of Pediatrics to issue this warning, " Early exposure of infants to cow's milk protein may be an important factor in the initiation of the beta cell destructive process in some individuals. " (The American Academy of Pediatrics Work Group on Cow’s Milk Protein and Diabetes Mellitus – 1994).http://www.nealhendrickson.com/mcdougall/020700puthepancreas.htmand no honey for babies because of risk of botulism that their immature immune system cannot handle.also no salt or sugar or anything is needed to improve taste- it doesn't have to taste good to you, just plain tastes fine to them and is better for them. they aren't conditioned yet to prefer saltier or sweeter foods. the natural sweetness of mother's milk is plenty sweet for them and they don't need the salt - natural plain foods (and mother's milk) have all the sodium and chloride that they need. Re: 10 month old Posted by: " KerriCary " english qn0fspades Tue Oct 16, 2007 7:33 am (PST) Hi again,Amen--lentils, well-ground flaxseed, and whole grain cereals areexcellent protein sources!Do avoid adding salt to a baby's food, though--I think their systemsaren't mature enough to handle it until well into toddlerhood. Ifyou're cooking for the family and want to add salt, cook the lentilsas Shree suggests, then remove the baby's portion and salt theremainder for the rest of the family.BTW, the cookbook I mentioned has a few lovely Asian-inspired recipesfor babies and toddlers. The author's son's father is Asian, and theirchild apparently inherited a love of spicy food. Theres's a recipe forKhichri on page 50--lentils, garlic, ginger, etc... yum...Best,Kerri Back to top Reply to sender | Reply to group | Reply via web post Messages in this topic (8) Recent Activity 7 New MembersVisit Your Group Cat Groups on discuss everything related to cats.
