Multi vitamin suppliment?

Animal Parade is vegan, they sell them at vitamin shops and Wild Oats and

such. I think you can find them online. They seemed reasonable. We have also

gotten the vegetarian gumi vitamin bears from Rhino, too, but my son has no

problem with them (I know they can be choking hazzards for some).

I forget the brand we get for my husband and I, but sometimes I just take my

sons chewables. :) Tis easier that way sometimes. Their recomended age is

like age 4 through adult (I know it was one of his).

We also have sublingual vegan b12 drops. It's the methylcobalamin one, got

it at wild oats, it's their store brand. (I so hope they do not disappear).

Hi Tricia,

You're right, it's really important to take a good

multimitamin/multimineral to ensure balance in your

diet, especially if you are a strict vegan. Vitamin

B12, which is known to be a deficiency we are prone

to, is actually better absorbed in supplement form

than dietary sources, like meat and eggs.

As far as a good adult multi, your best bet is to go

to your local health food store and look for a

broad-spectrum formula with iron (if still

menstrating), as well as decent levels of the B

vitamins and folate. You want at least 25 mg B6 and

100 mg of B12, and ideally 800 mcg of folate. The last

thing - whatever kind you buy, go home and put one

tablet into a glass of water - if it doesn't at least

partially dissolve in 1/2 an hour, it's probably not

going to dissolve in you, and there's no point in

taking it if you won't be absorbing it! It's always

better to take your vitamin with food as well, to

increase their assimilation.

For kids, my favorite is from the company Mountain

Peak Nutritionals, it's a natural orange-mango tasting

powder called Energy Formula. My 17 month old son

loves it, a couple times a week he slurps up a 1/2

scoop mixed in pure water. The company technically

only sells to healthcare practitioners, but I did a

web search before replying and found that Amazon sells

it for below retail. I don't like taking tablets

myself, and use this as my mainstay formula, but I use

3 scoops a day or more when I need a boost, and I

notice a dramatic difference in my energy - it's the B

vitamins! I add some to my water bottle (glass, or

course :) each morning, and sip it througout the day,

which helps me keep my fluid level up, as it makes the

water more palatable!

I hope all this helps you,

Melissa

(ps. I have no financial interest or stake in the

above company, just so you know. I just love their

products!)

Hi,

My kids take Animal Parade when they need vitamins. They have used for these

for years. They are vegan (important for us since we are too) and come in a

variety of flavors (cherry, orange, grape, and watermelon). You can get them

one flavor per bottle or a mixture of all but the watermelon in a bottle. It

comes in liquid form too but I'm not sure whether or not that form is vegan.

We've tried other varieties but this is the one we always come back to. I think

the only ones they like better are the vegan gummi bear vitamins. They were

just too expensive. Animal Parade is made by Nature's Plus. I get a bottle of

180 multi flavored vitamins for $16.00 at Nutrition S'Mart which is a Florida

health Food chain (I think only Palm Beach and Hillsborough counties right now).

They were about a dollar more at Wild Oats. I haven't checked their price since

Whole Foods took over so I'm not sure if the price has gone up. Pretty much

everything else has so I'm guessing that would have as well.

More often than not, we get our nutrients from the food we eat - including B-12.

There are times, especially when my kids are with their father when I know they

aren't eating well. He is not vegan or vegetarian and nutritional balance has

never been a concern of his - so I make sure they get vitamins and B-12

supplements. We use Twin Labs sublinguinal B-12 tabs. My kids love those more

than the vitamins! LOL They have a cherry taste and dissolve very quickly.

I've heard there is a liquid sublinguinal but we haven't tried that yet.

When I need a vitamin, I take Wild Oats Women's Multi. I will have to find a

new brand soon since, from what I have been told by store personnel, Whole Foods

is phasing out all of the Wild Oats brands.

Honestly, we don't take vitamins that often. I've been vegan for well over 30

years and I have never really taken any vitamins except when I haven't had time

to eat properly. I'm healthy as can be. Been to the doctor only once over the

past two years and that was because I had a kernel of corn lodged in my

esophagus which caused me to wheeze. I really prefer to get our nutrients from

food and consciously plan meals to that end. But, if you are not confident in

that or just want the added protection, by all means take supplements.

My kids love USANIMALS from USANA. You can get them thru Ebay or private

sellers. I'm not sure if they are vegan or not. www.usana.com

Animal Parade is a good vegetarian multi-vitamin for kids that are

chewable and come in several different flavors and animal shapes.

There free of artificial colors and flavors. As far as vegetarian

multi-vitamins for adults, I know they exist but I can't think of any

brands. If there's a health food store or food co-op where you live,

they should definitely be available there.
