We eat at Subway, Blimpies(some have veggie burger and veggie " chicken

patties they can add), Burger King has a Veggie Burger(even if it isn't on the

menu at your location, ask if they have it, most do), Cee Cee's Pizza(they'll

even make one made to order and without cheese if you prefer and for no extra

cost), Taco Bell(their refried beans are vegetarian), Ryan's, Golden Corral,

Fire Mountain, Barnhills (these 4 are all you can eat buffets and they have

plenty of selections for us, and with it already prepared, it is very quick to

eat there).

Fast Food

Just wondering what some of you do when in a bind and all that is

available is fast food. Where and what do you eat?

If I'm in a bind, which is rare, I go to Taco Bell. I order the

tostados. My son gets either the tostado or the 7 layer burrito and I

think they just came out with something else. A better option is to

go to a supermarket and go to health section. Buy a frozen meal like

lasagna, spring rolls, etc. Go to the seating area and nuke it. Many

stores also have deli sections.

That just reminded me of something else that I like to do. If we are going to

be out traveling for the day, sometimes I take something that I can heat in a

microwave at a gas station....... They don't mind. I do it often. This is

really handy if I have left over from a lunch on the road and am still out for

the evening meal. I usually have a cooler with ice in it in the vehicle, so I

just keep it in that until I'm ready to reheat it and pull into a gas station,

get gas and heat up my left overs......

Okay you all can beat me with a wet noodle on this one. Since I am

not vegetarian yet, trying to figure everything out (already got two

cookbooks that I can keep, and 3 from the library). ANYWAY, (wow I

ramble), when I get to the *dang we are out and nothing to eat but

Mickey D's* I either just get french fries, sometimes break down and

get a chicken sandwich, or try to find something that is *close* to

veg. Depending on the fast food place, not big on salads, as they are

usually just lettuce and tomatoes, so I am working on trying to figure

things out, plus trying to figure out what kind of vegetarian want to

be.

Oh man I keep forgetting about the fruit cup, but most of the time,

it is just friends sitting around someplace, and someone saying *I

am running out, what does everyone want* argh I cant think that way,

lol. I think I might just make sure I always have carrot and celery

strips around with me, and pbj sandwiches, lol.

Mc Donalds FF's have beef fat in them. Have you checked the yogurt because it

probably has gelatin in it.

Burger King FF's don't have any animal products. They have a list of

ingredients in each item posted on the wall, so you can always check there on

any item they carry.

I like sandwiches from Jack in the Box. Sourdough bread and vegetables, cheese

if you want. It costs less than a dollar per sandwich. Subway is good too,

though I won't be going there till this spinach scare is over since I don't like

lettuce and always get spinach instead. If you have the great luck of being near

a Saltgrass steakhouse, you simply *must* go there and get one of their baked

sweet potatoes. They have this buttery cinnamony heaven stuff they put all over

it, and their bread is to die for- not literally, of course! Ah, now I'm wanting

to go there. :)

That's a great idea Sheyen (btw - I really like your name :) ); the

more control you take over your food, the happier you will be. I

worked at McD over a million served ago and sometimes we would make

grilled cheeses for ppl using 2 middle buns from the big mac - I don't

know if they still do that tho'.

I don't have a cooler for the van I drive at work but I am learning

that little bags of nuts, Luna bars, Stonewall's Jerquee (lots of

sodium but oooo yummy) are good things to keep around to take the edge

off until I can get something more substantial.

Thanks, it is a combination of first and last name, Stacie Heyen,

anyway, the other day I was at Walmart and found this Trail Mix, it

is SOO good, it has soy nuts, pepitas (???) dried cherries,

sunflower seeds, raisins and almonds. So I usually just take that,

and a baggie with cheezits in it for work. Everyone at work is

worried about me, keeps trying to offer me food, because a few weeks

ago when I first started this, all I was eating was peanut butter

and crackers! Hehe. They are like everyone else who worries that I

am not getting enough protien. Now if I could either figure out how

to make Sietan homemade (found a recipe the other day) or find it in

the store, I will be fine. My proplem is I am going off or trying

to, go off hormone laden food, so that means very little soy too.

Well I didnt really want to try tofu anyway, hehe.

Okay enough babbling,

Hm, Anyone mention Subway's veg sandwich? I think

they have one with a patty and maybe a couple of other's

that just have vegetables. Also veg sandwiches available

at Quizno's, Togo's and Eric's Deli (not sure how wide ranging

that is. I know they are in the SF Bay Area). Nation's Burgers

have a veg burger called a Harvester. Of course a problem with

burgers, cooked on the same grill, and fries, cooked in the same

fat as chicken, fish, etc. and may or may not have meat flavoring in it.

There is a hot dog place locally, Caspers, I think, and down in the

South Bay I know there are a lot of Wiernerschnitzels but I don't think

either of them have soy/tofu dogs. Admittedly I haven't been to either

for a number of years but I haven't seen any ads with veg dogs from

them either. I would think they would start offering vegetarian hot dogs.

it? Haven't been to

I just can't believe McDonalds (in my area) doesn't offer veg burgers! Not just

vegetarians but I know a few people who are giving up the meat hamburgers for

health reasons. You would think they would have them, some Burger Kings do.

A few years back McDonalds did sell Veggie burgers but done away with them

because they didn't sell enough. Burger King does sell them at least where I

live but they do contain egg. If you are Vegan I don't reccommend it!

I was down in New York city a few months ago and McDonalds down there

were advertising a " McVeggie " . I haven't been in a McDonalds in

years, but as far as I know, they aren't offering them up here in

Syracuse and, according to my mom, not in Boston either, though I

remember them being offered a long tima ago at a few McDonalds in

Cambridge, MA, like maybe 8 or more years ago. Maybe they are just

test-marketing them in NYC? I wouldn't trust any oil they use on them

to be truly vegetarian, though and I wouldn't be surprised if they

used meat ingrediants to flavor them, like the fries. Still, its nice

to (maybe) have the option in an emergency.

Right.

I think they are cutting off their noses, because more families would be going

to mcdonals if they had veggie burgers for the one vegetarian in the family, the

rest would eat the meat.

but with their French Fries having Beef fat in the frozen fry, there is really

nothing but some of the salads that you can eat. Even the fried apple pies have

either beef fat or lard(can't remember which one). I never go to MCDonalds.

for a number of years but I haven't seen any ads with veg dogs from

them either. I would think they would start offering vegetarian hot dogs.

but with their French Fries having Beef fat in the frozen fry, there is really

nothing but some of the salads that you can eat. Even the fried apple pies have

either beef fat or lard(can't remember which one). I never go to MCDonalds. It

won't get my money.

Right.

I think they are cutting off their noses, because more families would be going

to mcdonals if they had veggie burgers for the one vegetarian in the family, the

rest would eat the meat.

grrrr.

A few years back McDonalds did sell Veggie burgers but done away with them

because they didn't sell enough. Burger King does sell them at least where I

live but they do contain egg. If you are Vegan I don't reccommend it!

They did offer them here in California a few years back and I would eat them

occassionally UNTIL I found out that they soak the fries in Beef fat....who

knows how they cooked those vegie burgers!

I was down in New York city a few months ago and McDonalds down there

Syracuse and, according to my mom, not in Boston either, though I

remember them being offered a long tima ago at a few McDonalds in

Cambridge, MA, like maybe 8 or more years ago. Maybe they are just

test-marketing them in NYC? I wouldn't trust any oil they use on them

to be truly vegetarian, though and I wouldn't be surprised if they

used meat ingrediants to flavor them, like the fries. Still, its nice

to (maybe) have the option in an emergency.
