Guest guest
Dawn--Most toddlers eat pretty much the same few items every day, so don't worry. My daughter's 15 months, and she's like that, too. Just keep experimenting. Try fresh raw veggies and fruits, and well as canned(my daughter loves organic cut green beans, straight from the can), cooked, and even frozen ones (yes, straight from the bag--one of mine LOVED frozen peas!). The first time Abby was offered tofu cubes, she threw them all over. Now they are her absolute favorite food! She also loves avocados, grapes, berries, broccoli, " green smoothies " , bananas, cucumbers, hash browns, dry cereals, and cherry tomatoes. Just keep at it. Sooner or later, your child will try lots of new things! Marilyn **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I'm new to the group, but have really enjoyed reading all the posts. My husband and I have been vegetarian for about 10 years and have been strict vegetarians (no dairy or eggs) for about 6 years. We don't call ourselves vegan yet because we occasionally will eat birthday cake or something at a party when we know it probably has eggs in it. We are also new parents to an 11 month old. I was wondering if I could ask the other veg parents if they have any ideas for finger foods for him. He tends to be a little picky. So far, he will eat just about any kind grains, bananas, apples, pasta, and peas. I've tried many other fruits and veggies but usually have to hide them in muffins or pancakes to get him to eat them. I feel like I'm giving him the same foods everyday. I would love some ideas to give him some variety. He is independent and gave up breast feeding and baby food at 8 months. He is taking a vitamin supplement, but I would really like to get him eating a variety of foods to ensure he's getting all he needs. Thank you in advance for your help. -Dawn ______________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Keep offering him new foods, even if it's only a small portion - he'll eventually try it, and will probably like it. I don't recall where I heard this but basically to introduce a new food sometimes it takes about 10 tries or so before they will eat it. We always put things on our son's plate, wether or not he would eat them, but he has tried them. We also found when our son was that young, he didn't like his foods mixed together - so we'd have separate piles for each (probably a teaspoon or so of each different item). Our son at 10 months would eat sandwiches (we cut them very small and bite sized, but it worked, and by a year he was eating a quarter of a sandwich no problems, not cut smaller than that). He's a huge fan of broccoli, cauliflower, beans, swiss chard and so on, because we always put them on his plate. For some of it, we did have a one bite rule (evolved into a 3 bite rule, but now he challenges us on it, so we still just put it on his plate, and perhaps he'll try something, usually he has, but not recently). Anyway - try letting him use a fork or spoon, could be messy, but he could just want to be more like you guys. We started with things like applesauce and yogurt, pasta and so on. We even did a small glass for him (using a shot glass like in his Montessori class we were in at the time). Cooked till soft, but not mush vegetables work well for fingerfoods - carrots, broccoli, corn and other vegies cut small and cooked similiarly work as well (potatoes, squash, at some point my son liked redbeets but doesn't like them so much anymore) We also, I think around 10 months, maybe 11 they can have all the beans, so we did tofu cubes/shapes (I have small cookie cutter things that were perfect bite sized shapes) he always (and still) loves plain tofu.
