When I've seen recommendations not to give rice milk to children, it

really means not to give it to them as their primary drink in place of

breast milk or formula. Rice milk tends to be very low in protein and

often low in fat as well. As an occasional drink it is fine, as long as

they have other good protein and fat sources.

I am not a nutritionist or doctor, but I agree with Heather. I checked the

rice milk in my fridge and its specific message does begin with " not for use

as an infant formula " . I think people that wanted a non dairy formula

alternative have tried to use these types of drinks in the past as a

replacement for breast milk or formula and nutritionally it does not stack

up. An attorney probably indicated to place this on their product to lesson

liability or they have been sued in the past and now need the blurb to

better protect themselves. I have seen this on many milk drinks though, not

just rice. This same message is also on the oat milk in my fridge.

Also, I know that my pediatrian recommended that I keep my children on soy milk

until age two for the increased nutrition and extra fat. Don't know if all of

them recommend that, but. . .
