Guest guest
Hi everyone -- I have completely avoided buying any kind of sprouts because of various things I've heard about high potential for harbouring harmful bacteria. My grocery store carries a fair variety though, so lots of people must be eating them. My husband just received a lovely new cookbook with lots of recipes that make use of a cup or two of sprouts. Do any of you use/avoid sprouts? Any words of wisdom on types to avoid or types that are safe? Heather
Guest guest
Heather, I have heard a lot about sprouts in the past, but nothing too much recently so I am not a good source. I do however use them quite frequently. I like to sprout sunflower seeds at home and I buy Diakon sprouts.. I use them to spice up veggie sandwiches a lot and they are FANTASTIC! Again not sure about what individuals have read, but I have sprouts about 4 days a week at least with one meal and I have had no issues. The sprouts I do purchase are locally grown and organic from either Whole Foods or one of the farmer's markets in my area. Guest guest
HI Heather and all, sprouts are packed with vitamins and healthy stuff. I would not avoid them, I beleive the benefits by far outweighs the risk. However, I grow my own rather than buy them. It is supereasy and so much cheaper! I buy my sprouts from sproutpeople.com they check their seeds for disease and have NEVER had anyone come down with somethng from their sprouts. They also sell cheap sprouters. Check them out Jessica > >
