hi,

i will be going to CT (westport area) and NYC with my 4 little ones and i am

wondering if anyone has some places to go to eat. i really don't like to eat at

restaurants that serve meat but in CT i am sure i will be forced to. i know of

bloodroot in bridgeport but not sure of any others. we will be in different

areas of NYC so anyplace that would be suitable for a 1YO, 3YO, 5YO and 6YO who

like chinese food but are open to some others like italien and smoothie type

places.

thanks,

heather

there's a cool little mexican/american place in Larchmont NY, and I think they

have one in NYC too. It's called Harry's Burritos and has a lot of veg and vegan

options like soy sour cream and all sorts of alternatives. Larchmont is exit 17

heading N on 95. Exit 18A if you stop coming back from CT. Have a nice trip!

Hi,

A couple years back, there was a cool little diner in CT that served

vegan and non-veg food called the Fairfield Diner and Vegetarian

Enclave - I don't know if it's still there.

In NYC, check out these guides to veg dining:

guides/new-york-vegan-restaurant-guide.html

Enjoy your trip to the Big Apple - one of the main reasons to live

here is the food!

Hi Heather,

For NYC, I would recommend Quantum Leap in the West Village

neighborhoodid=0 & restaurantid=519) and the Vegetarian Dim Sum House in

Chinatown (http://www.vegetariandshouse.com). Both places get pretty busy

on the weekends during prime brunch hours, but if you go early or late

afternoon, it's fine.

Since this is my first post, I'll introduce myself a bit. My husband and I

became

vegetarian together 10 years ago. We would probably be considered junk food

vegetarians as we aren't big on cooking. We live in manhattan so we are lucky

to have a lot of good vegetarian takeout options. However, I'm really trying to

change that after our son was born last August. I bought the Super Baby Food

book based on recommendations I read here to make my son's food at home.

I've also joined a CSA this year with plans to start cooking great vegetarian

meals

at home with fresh local produce (I think I'll buy a crock pot after the group's

discussion last month about dinner ideas).

Even though Lucian is just barely starting solids, it's funny how many people

ask

me if I will raise my son vegetarian too (like I would cook up some meat for my

little baby when I wouldn't eat it myself :) But, I realize they don't mean

anything by it; it's just new and different to them so I try to educate people

along the way when I can. I have already learned so many great things from this

group about raising vegetarian children and how to deal with things as they

come up. I really appreciate all the wonderful information and supportive

environment.

thank you everyone,

rachael

There are a zillion veg places in NYC, two of my

favorites are the vegetarian soul food restaurant

which has AWESOME veggie fried 'chicken' sandwiches

called Red Bamboo, and Teany which is a tiny litte tea

house that is vegan and serves some sandwiches and kid

friendly fare. I highly recommend the BLT. As for

chinese, there is a place called Buddah Boddai (in

Flushing)that is so amazing.

Here is a great resource:

there is also a buddah bodai restaurant in chinatown in case you don't

get out to queens (www.chinatownvegetarian.com).

two other places just came to mind: curly's lunch

(www.curlyslunch.com) and zen palate (www.zenpalate.com). Curly's is

east of union square and zen palate has 4 locations in manhattan

(theatre district, union square, financial district and midtown east).
